The neighborhood:
There is a Walmart in the town of Sylva a few miles east, as well as craft and antique shops in nearby Dillsboro. Headed west, near Franklin, you will find Harrahâs Cherokee casino. Visit a real gem mine, such as Masonâs, in the Cowee Valley. Try rafting in Nantahala, or take a drive over the mountain to Gaitlinburg and Pigeon Forge, where you can go horseback riding. You might want to go skiing in Cataloochee, depending on the season, of course! Just as you pass through downtown Sylva, on your right you will come to the market, where you can purchase freshly-laid eggs, as well as all kinds of fruits and vegetables and jams and jellies. For fine dining, try Ruth Chris Steak House at Harrahâs, the buffet at the casino, or a number of other good restaurants.
You are in National Forest, surrounded by hiking trails and about 1 mile from Tuckasegee River
The deck and the living room have a spectacular view of Smokey Mountains

It was smaller than pictured. Someone was on property during our stay and going through the storage building, hot tub was dirty like the top was left off. Just made us uncomfortable. Thankfully I started feeling unwell so we didnât stay the night. Sadly, no refunds.
We rented this cabin to stay before a gymnastics competition. The area is beautiful!! We had read that the single lane road had been a problem in others' experiences, but didn't really know what that meant until we drove up. It wasn't a problem in a 4-wheel drive in good weather, however it was calling for at least 6 inches of snow overnight (we woke up to at least that much while it contiued into the day). We didn't feel like we would safely make it back down so we never checked in. Unfortunately, there was a no refund policy and we were left having to find and pay for another place to stay the night. Of note, there are several cameras around the property, not sure what is inside as we never even got out of our vehicle. Beware of weather conditions when renting this property and the no refund policy. From the outside, it is cute and would have been just the place to stay overnight with the right weather.
The cabin was clean and a great place to stay and very secluded. Check in was easy, communication with the property manager was easy. My wife and I loved the stay and had a great time. The only thing we hated about this stay was the drive to the cabin, the instructions to get there sounded clear in the email but once you started the drive to it went out the window fast. Now all roads will end up getting you to the cabin some are just easier than others. I think some better signs would go a long way. It was dreadful getting back to the cabin in the pitch dark. Everything about the cabin and the experience was great I would love to stay here again I just know what to expect with the last 2 mins of the drive though.
Great place! Very close to golf courses, and Cheyenne NC. Kitchen has what you need to do anything. Easy to find...there are little arrows on the street signs pointing the way. Pay attention driving. All kinds of wildlife around.
Pretty serious uphill driving, Iâd recommend a high torque all wheel drive.
Place is very small and loft is so low that even my 4 year old had to bend. Oven is old and didnât seem to work.
Overall I think itâs a great price for the views and the Tesla charging. If you have your expectations set right youâll be happy.
Place is at the very top of a winding dirt road that goes up the side of the mountain. Check in was easy and place was as advertised. Property manager was also very responsive and easy to communicate with. Could of been a tad more clean for the price of the cleaning fee but nothing too serious. Overall enjoyed the stay and appreciated the bear aesthetic.
We stayed here for a last minute getaway and this was one of the last available properties..and we quickly discovered why. First of all, the VRBO listing details are not accurate and contradict a long document of rules that they send you AFTER you book. We initially planned to bring our adult dogs because the listing says âpets allowedâ with a pet fee. The property managers quickly informed us that the property is NOT pet friendly unless you receive prior approval. They did not give us approval for our two pets and did not allow us to cancel our reservation after they informed us of this rule change. You have no choice but to agree to and sign this rule document unless you want to cancel for no refund. It seemed like they were purposefully vague. In the future, they should be transparent with the property rules and allow you an opportunity to review them before you book.
The cabin was in a state of disrepair and very dirty. The TV was coming out of the wall, toilet paper was stuffed in the bathroom vent, there was mold around the bathroom sink faucet and it didnât look like they had vacuumed anything. Im not joking in saying that we found somebodyâs dirty sandals shoved in one of the kitchen cabinets above the fridge.
Lastly, the road up to the cabin is very treacherous and while my husband did make it up in our Kia Optima, we did get stuck once going up and it was stressful. For the record, we are very familiar with mountainous driving terrain and found that we really stretched the capabilities of our smaller car. They do describe the road conditions on the listing, but I feel that they should make it AWD only to avoid future issues with other customers.
My friends and I rented this cabin for easy access to the Smokies, and it is perfect for that. It is pretty small, but very comfortable and just what we needed. Only about 10 minutes from downtown Cherokee and about 20 from the entrance to the national park. No wifi, but both of us have T-Mobile and the service was decent; one part of the cabin has better service than the other. The steep, non-paved driveway can be a little harrowing for cautious drivers, but my Jetta made it up with no problem. We absolutely loved being secluded on the hill with nothing but the sound of cicadas. The cabin and its little porch is lovely; I would definitely stay again.
The home was just perfect. The kids enjoyed the loft area. There were nice touches like a fully stocked kitchen, flowers, a water fountain, and fluffy towels. The location was in the middle of rafting, zip lining and waterfalls.
The cabin was great. It is very cozy and within 30 mins of most attractions we wanted to see. We did imagine it would be a little bit larger, but that is basically on us for not doing reading. The cell phone worked to teather for internet on the tv, but it wasnât always great picture as cell had low bandwidth time to time. Overall just what the doctor ordered though.
I was looking for a quiet cabin in the woods to relax and this house was exactly it. The communication with the property manager was prompt and easy. The house was functional and very clean. We had everything we needed.
It is best suitable for small people like myself, my husband is 6'8" and he could not stand upright in the kitchen and bathroom. So anyone over 6'4" should maybe consider another house.
I would come back anytime, I loved it.
Fairly remote cabin with steep gravel access road. Rustic/Bear decor for a true mountain getaway experience. No wifi so be prepared for game night! Our son loved the loft (very low ceiling so only good for kids). Well equipped kitchen. Bathroom was a bit small and not impeccably clean.
