Overlook at Highland Lake

Spend a spectacular summer in Maine at this charming home on the shores of Highland Lake. Go swimming from the dock at the water's edge, take out the provided kayaks and paddle boards, and teach your kids to fish in beautiful, serene surroundings.

This lakefront home sits on the western shore of Highland Lake, an easy drive just 12 miles from Portland. To help you get out on the water, you'll find two kayaks (one adult and one child-size), paddle boards, fishing gear, and life jackets at the house, as well as an HOA boat launch down Amber Lane.

The grounds are lovely and special, whether you're sipping coffee on the dock at sunrise, watching your kids play on the lawn, or sharing an outdoor lunch or dinner at the picnic table overlooking the lake. There's also a firepit where you can roast s'mores, tell ghost stories, and stargaze in the evenings.

The two-story interior is comfortable and open, offering a large living room with multiple seating vignettes and a smart TV. Prepare breakfast each morning using the kitchen's stainless steel appliances, and pull the high chair up to the dining room table to gather the whole gang together at mealtime. Pass the afternoon hours outside on the front deck, toss the day's swimsuits in the washer/dryer, and indulge in a restful night's sleep in three spacious bedrooms.

House on a lake
We had rain which didn't allow us to use the dock or lake or fire pit. The house is in good condition, just a couple of things I noticed. The bathtub on the 1st floor does not drain properly. There are no window treatments on the 1st floor which we did not care for. Dining area light did not work right. The location is private, and convenient to shopping, and getting to different tourist sites around Portland.

Perfect getaway!
The house and property were just as described. We had our 4 young adult children meet us there, from their various college towns. We spent about half of our time exploring the region, from Portland to Acadia. But we had rest days in between, just hanging out at the house and lake, playing games and watching the otters play in the lake. All the kids- aged 18 to 26- loved it as much as we did. It was just so comfortable and spacious!

Beautiful Setting but not Managed by Premier Host
The stay was great because we made it great, but for Premier Host Property it was lacking - ripped pillow case; bathroom sink stoppers didn't work properly; fridge not cleaned well; poor info about area. Booked with VRBO but ended up having to deal with Vacasa Property Management which was not ideal and confusing. There wasn't one designated rep; the reps who responded had poor/no knowledge of the property or area; replies slow and/or responded multiple times by different reps with different answers to same questions. VRBO and Vacasa are now asking to rate the property. Very confusing. During our stay, a man in a truck arrive unannounced, collected something from behind the house and left without letting us know who he was and his purpose. We saw him from the water when boating. No explanation provided. Concerning bc the key pad door lock often didn't work and/or was difficult to lock from the outside. Site info lacking ex: slope down to lake; water crafts located in basement require physical ability to move in and out. Ground around fire pit is large black rock & difficult to walk on; pit location poor only two people can sit "comfortably" around it; poorly constructed with stone that gets very hot. Fire wood not provided. Pots and pans poor condition; knives were dull; No plastic glasses to use outside near dock or fire pit; no place mats for table; You really need to provide all your own kitchen supplies - not just food. Sofas not comfortable.

Great lakeside home!
Nice location right on the lake. House was a good size for family stay. The kitchen area and living room area is large enough for the whole group to gather!

Beautiful property
We stayed at this property during a guys weekend getaway and it was perfect. Very clean and spacious. Although it is too cold this time of year to utilize the lake, the view was amazing. A great place to relax and get away from the city. The fire pit was where we spent most of our time. Less than 30 mins from Portland. Would definitely stay here again!
