Loved the hotel, particularly the grounds & the air of freedom & wildness of the beach. Staff were great, never pushy, always friendly & the cleaning staff worked particularly hard. Really enjoyed the Pilates Classes with Nicola. (The other class leaders were good but really need more training in the basics of protecting the spine, engaging more with the participants etc) I loved the indoor pools & spa. Our room was not one of the newly renovated ones but we hadn't paid top $ & tailored our expectations accordingly.

Splendid view from the hotel grounds and pool. You can see the beach and the cliffs. Extremely beautiful sunrise and sunsets. We did not try the food at the hotel because we walked to the restaurants in town. There is plenty of free parking around the hotel but inside the gated area is limited. The hotel is a 12 minute drive from the center of Albufeira if you want more dining and club options.

Honest review…….,The hotel itself is very good and the staff are excellent. The views are lovely. The breakfasts are superb with a huge variety. You can also use the hotel next door (Falesia Blue Ocean) which has recently been refurbed and looks fantastic. The hotel has very close beach access via external steps down which take you right to the beach. However if you have mobility issues then this can be problematic as there is no lift. The design of the steps has been sympathetically designed with benches here and there for people to take a breather. The spa is not really a spa in my opinion. They do have treatment rooms but the spa itself is a very small outdated, rather stale smelling room with a small indoor pool and jacuzzi. There is a separate steam room and sauna you can pay to use but we didn’t bother as they looked so old and in need of some TLC. The food at this hotel is excellent, in particular the a la carte restaurant. A little pricey if you aren’t on a board basis. Lovely quality though. Again drinks are pricey but so are most hotels these days. The entertainment was rather poor but maybe that’s just the time of year. Other than that, it really was a lovely holiday and if we did return we would want to be on the 5th floor again with views of the pool and ocean. The view really is stunning.

Excellent breakfast options and staff friendliness. Really enjoyed tennis lessons, playing tennis games and padel! Outdoor pool very clean also and ideal for a dip after sunbathing! Beautiful beach nearby!

Overall we had a positive experience. The hotel is dated and needs updating (which is apparently happening this fall). The rooms are all carpeted which is notoriously difficult to clean. That being said, the beds were comfortable. Everything is spotless, they are always cleaning and house keeping was excellent. The breakfast was great, nice to have it included. Waitstaff is almost too attentive, constantly coming by to clear your plates. We had the dinner buffet two nights and I was not impressed. Options were limited and I felt there were better options outside the resort. Granted walking to local restaurants isn’t ideal for those with mobility issues (hills, uneven terrain), but the food was great and reasonably priced. The bjggest letdown about Portugal as a whole? The beaches are amazing but the water is absolutely freezing! I am not exaggerating when I say it can’t be above 60 degrees. Sadly we couldn’t even enjoy the water because it was unbearable.

Great location! Beautiful beach right down the steps. Loved the quiet atmosphere of the pool area. Many places to relax. We had a car, so drove to see the coast, from Sagres to Tavira. Stopped at many towns along the way. You must visit Praia do Rocha, Tavira, Sagres, Salema. Spent one day golfing at Sagados. From the course you can see the beach and boardwalk of Salgados. Porto Bay Hotel had lots of free parking, lovely breakfast and dinner at Basilico. We did not do the buffet dinner during our 6 night stay. Walked up the street a few times. Lots of places to eat.
