Bedroom: Galleried, Four Poster Double (4ft 6in) Bed Ensuite: Cubicle Shower, Toilet. Patio with garden furniture. No smoking.. All properties: Biomass central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. External utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer (shared). Barbecue available on request (shared). Hot tub (shared with other properties on-site on a rota basis). Bike store. Private parking for 1 car. . These three, 18th century barn conversions, (refs 80043, 28645, 28646) are located just 1 mile from the market town of Alston, one of the highest towns in the country and a charming backdrop to many a period film and TV series. Situated behind the owner’s home, these holiday cottages offer comfortable accommodation with their own sitting-out areas.

Guests have shared use of the hot tub where views can be enjoyed towards Mount Hooley and over the South Tyne Valley. The changing landscape throughout the seasons makes for picturesque views all year round. After a day out exploring this delightful area, what better way to soak those tired limbs and relax.

This is a good base for exploring Tynedale and the North Pennines by foot, bicycle or car, with many places of interest to visit, including Alston’s narrow gauge railway, Pennine Pottery and local crafts. The Pennine Way runs past the door, with walks in all directions. Alston, with its quaint cobbled main street, has a range of individual shops, character inns, restaurants and tea rooms. Within the area is an historical Roman fort and tourists will enjoy the museums, exhibitions and sites along Hadrian’s Wall. The Lake District, Beamish Museum, Newcastle, the Metro Centre, Carlisle and the Scottish Borders are all within driving distance. My Stay Alston

Property was lovely the owners John & Sue are lovely people went there as couple my girlfriend was on crutches and John helped so much to get her in hot tub was very nice of them . Place has everything you need all kitchen items and very clean tidy would definitely recommend and will be revisiting in near future and surrounding area are fantastic

We had a wonderful Christmas spent at the Calf Shed.

We had a wonderful Christmas spent at the Calf Shed. Mr and Mrs Younger were very welcoming and left us a few festive items when we arrived which was so lovely and thoughtful. We had some Christmas decorations and lights inside and out, which was so festive and we made full use of the hot tub on Christmas Day. There are some great walks on the Pennine way and with Alston village nearby, we had a great meal at the Cumberland Inn. The scenery is spectacular and the nearby Hartside Summit and the Moor had splatterings of snow when we arrived! All in all a beautiful spot to spend Christmas and we will defiantly return in the future! Thank you so much. X

Had a great stay at the Calf Shed even during a pandemic. It's about a 40 minute walk to Alston which has a few pubs and a Co-op for the essentials. It's an ideal spot to explore Cumbria. The Calf Shed was lovely.

The Calf Shed was lovely. Ideal for two adults. Everything you need is there. The area is a dark sky so no light pollution. Beautiful area very quiet. locals and our hosts Susan and Tom was so welcoming. Be prepared to drive on winding roads, it takes a long time to get anywhere.

We had a lovely visit to the calf shed. It's cosey and the owners are lovely, having milk,tea, coffee and biscuits for our arrival. The only complaint I have is that even though it is meant for two people the downstairs space could be laid out better. As people who like to walk when coming back there is only a very small two seater sofa and a rub chair. Not the the most comfy for costing up after a long walk. The cooker is very slow, we chose to cook two nights of our three. The bed was very comfy and the shower was hot and power was fine. Also extra things where on hand like towels and toilet rolls. Lovely area to explore and we would stay again. We didn't use the hot tub as it was a bit fresh and my partner felt a little overlooked to relax.
