Far too expensive for what it is, its more than run down, its dingy and smells.
When we stayed all the rooms looking at the loch were taken by 'a large group', which was fine. It not obvious on here that the rooms at the back then are right next to the main road. So anyone can see into your room when driving by.
The next morning for breakfast all the tables next the windows facing the loch were also reserved for 'the large group' I was livid. The group were no where to be seen and I dont understand why all the seats in the window would be reserved for them with no consideration for other guests, I was also told 'they sit there every day' surely if they had the opportunity once then they can free up the tables for others another day! The member of staff that I complained to seems very inconvenience that I wouldnt take a dark corner table. Breakfast was not good either, the eggs had a weird green colour and no fresh fruit. They ran out of cups and plates mid-service.
Does have a great location.
For a base for an amazing motorbike trip this hotel is ideal. The Buffet breakfast amongst the best I’ve ever experienced

Fantastic setting. Easy walking out. Professional staff but very busy. - breakfast started at 8am and by 8.30 when we came down many item on buffet, croissants and orange juice had ran out. Exceptional weather and our second floor room which was facing SW was so hot sleeping was very uncomfortable. Window only opened 2-3 inches and no fan.
Very limited hours for breakfast and dinner or bar. I couldnt even purchase a bottle of water during the day. Except for dead spider squished on the ceiling it was relatively clean. Its a good 20 minute hike with luggage from where the train drops you off to Arrochar, which is actually 5 to 10 minute walk to Tarbet. There are no taxis stationed in either, minimum 30 minutes wait for a taxis from somewhere else. It is a quiet restfull place, just limited for service.
The hotel seems to be lacking a managerial influence. I worked in hotels for many years and noticed this immediately. My friend had many issues with the restaurant staff and quality of food. He is a head chef and worked on cruise ships, so demands a degree of competence.
I found my room satisfactory. The cleanliness left a lot to be desire cobwebs all over the ceiling and lampshades thick with dust. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss, dinner was okay although staff were less than welcoming. The hotel is in a excellent area and its a shame its nowhere near its potential.
We were somehow shoved into the tiniest room on the property. The room across the hallway was triple the size and of course had a view. Our bathroom was tiny and did not look like any of the photos. The hotel is dated, and wear and tear is very visible. Our room was right behind the stage area where they had a singer in the bar (literally our rooms wall was his backdrop). He only sang until 10:30, but had we had an early morning it would have been very irritating. It is a great location for the bus stop, but it was a hike to the railway station.

It was a nice hotel Yes it's a little old but then again who isn't I only problem was whoever designed the bathroom should not have designed a bathroom
Great views from the bar/restaurant. Great ffood at market prices. Only comment is an ice machine and microwave would have been handy but understand the management were not big on food in the rooms. Management were courteous and helpful.

Comfy and clean bed but room really could have done with a dust. Broken shower which dripped all night. Very convenient for anyone travelling by bus
Fantastic location for a nights stay before travelling to Islay from Cumbria. Amazing views across Long Loch. Hotel was spacious but a wee bit dated. Food was delicious and all the staff we encountered were really friendly
The bed was comfortable otherwise it was dusty
The reception staff were rude because I did not hand back the checkout key
A very old fashioned place running on skeleton staff
No one was there to greet me when I came
