NOT AS ADVERTISED

Pros: Nothing
Cons: Upgrade rooms, fill the pool and maintain
Location: Litterly nothing nearby or on site. Very disappointing.
This hotel looked like a nice place to overnight on route to the ferry. We arrived after dark, had trouble checking in as no one seemed to be expecting us. After a call to the owner I assume, we were let into a room. The beds were awful, one having only a thin foam mattress. Had to wait for water to be turned on. Got up early and quickly noticed the hotel was nothing like the pictures online. Pool closed, no food available, everything really run down. Good thing we had only paid for one night.

Beautiful view, lots to do, showing wear and tear.

Pros: The view, the kind hostess, and the grounds to roam and explore. Boys swam in the (cold) pool and we played mini-golf.
Cons: Blankets on the beds, new pillows, some personal touches to the rooms would really be nice, as it felt very austere and a bit unwelcoming.
Location: The town of Atenas is really lovely. Not at all touristy--it felt like a great place to experience a middle-class Tica town.
The view from the hotel is truly beautiful, and it does indeed boast two pools, a mini-golf course, and a tennis court. I suspect it would have been really stunning 10 or 20 years ago. The pools were clean and working, though showing signs of age. The mini-golf is also working--we enjoyed playing a round--though really showing its age.
The room was clean, and very bare-bones. From the photos, we expected a suite with a sitting room and two separate bedrooms. It was actually one bedroom, with the second bed in the front room. No chairs/sofas or sitting area as we'd expected. Bed was uncomfortable, and only a sheet. We were quite cold as it was a cool evening. (We were too late to ask for a blanket--make sure to ask before bedtime!) Kitchen is well-stocked if you plan to cook. No personal touches or bits of comfort, but clean and functional. No food on-site, but it's a short drive back to down.
