Charming Boutique Villa Between Milan and Lake Como, golf and gourmet
Numero CIR 097006-CNI-00001
Immersed in 5 hectares of rolling green lawn and trees, the Villa has 5 bedrooms - each with its own bathroom - and 2 additional half bathrooms. Recent renovations have brought the parquet and marble floors to their original 19th c. lustre, and at the same time have added important creature comforts such as a new gourmet kitchen, air-conditioning in each bedroom and in the kitchen, marble bathrooms and high-speed internet. Importantly, the owners are available to help you plan your northern Italian visit with bespoke itinerary suggestions and reservations help. Stays of 8 days or more include a mid-week cleaning service.
The large, comfortable Villa, spread over two floors and 500 square metres, is appointed with tasteful furnishings, comfortable beds and pillows and beautiful detailing throughout. The Villa makes up the lion's share of the building; 2 smaller flats used by family and the caretaker have SEPARATE entrances and do not have access to this space.
An adjacent lodge, private to our Villa guests, has ping-pong and foosball tables, in addition to croquet, badminton and bocce sets to play on the adjoining lawn. The property is located on a hill overlooking the surrounding towns and countryside. The locality is called âPoggio Verdeâ which means Green Hill.
Our recently refurbished 20-metre swimming pool is a pure pleasure for lap swimmers and children. Shared with family members, it features plenty of pool furniture and a private changing room for our guests.
This lovely Italian country villa is ideally located for visitors wishing to explore northern Italy, from Milan just 50 minutes to the south to Bellagio & Lake Como in the foothills of the Alps just minutes to the north.
Outstanding northern Italian dining and things to see and do - culture and recreational - surround our home. At Poggio Verde we take special care of our guests, booking them into our favorite nearby trattorias, farm-to-tables, or Michelin restaurants, suggesting itineraries and facilitating their stay however we can, both before in the planning stages of their visit, as well as during their stay. We are well connected to surrounding service providers and we can arrange extras such as chef services, cooking lessons, a driver and extra cleaning at guestsâ request. Please see further details on ilpoggioverde com.
(There is the possibility of 4 additional bedrooms, sleeping 7, in an adjacent part of the building; these are not available during the summer months; see "Maddy's Poggio" on HomeAway.)
Our goal as your hosts is to make your stay at Poggio Verde as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. We know the area very well and are happy to put this knowledge at your disposal. We are standing by to assist you, even before you come, so that your stay fully lives up to your expectations. Gretchen Crosti and Judith Wencel
Would highly recommend this beautiful villa. Plenty of room, beautiful grounds and views. Location is great with only a short drive to Milan and Lake Como. The hostess was fantastic. Gretchen was very pleasant/friendly, helpful and provided us much information. Although we did not take advantage of the extra services offered for an extra fee, you are able to arrange for a private chef to cook for you, have a private cooking class, etc.
This property is absolutely beautiful. Our family consisted of 6 adults and 4 children ages 11-16 and the accommodations worked perfectly. There is a large pool, game room, and movie room - perfect for all ages. The villa has a lot of history associated with it and we could not have picked a better place to create our memories of Italy.
This beautiful family Villa was perfect for our week long gathering of three generations and close friends. We felt right at home immediately. There was space for everyone, both indoors and outside. We loved being on the picturesque terrace and loggia, the lawns, in the beautiful large pool, and in every room in the house. There is so much history here. We loved the family photos, the art, the furnishings, the Murano chandeliers, the toys under the grand piano, the beautiful kitchen. The Villa is filled with love and care. It felt so warm and comfortable to us, including the children. One evening, we brought in a chef to prepare a beautiful meal for us. We loved our stay and wish we could come back every year.
Our family (8 people) gathered for Easter Vacation at the Poggio Verde villa. We have rented several villas in the past decade in Italy, Spain, Greece and France, but this one was definitely the most comfortable and peaceful one. We were lucky to meet the very kind owners and learn a bit more from them on the history of the villa and region. The garden is amazing, with old trees and flowers, plenty of spaces calling for meditation. We also liked the open kitchen which is fully equipped as well as the multiple dining and sitting rooms, where we even played the piano. There are plenty of beautiful places to visit as well as restaurants for those who would like a more active holiday, around the lakes and mountains within 45mn-60mn drive, and also various towns including Milano (there's a convenient train station not to far away, to avoid traffic jams). Each bedroom has its own bathroom so the villa is also very convenient for a group or even professional gathering. Highly recommended.
My family and extended family, a party of 10, booked Poggio Verde for 4 nights in June. Communication with Gretchen the year leading up to the stay was effective, quick, professional and friendly. I am not sure that I am able to properly express the glorious time we had with Gretchen, her family, and at the property. It was like arriving in a dream!!! The most beautiful and historical home. The property and grounds were very clean and well maintained. Its hosts were the epitome of hospitable and caring hosts. Our family made the most glorious of memories while staying at the beautiful villa. 11 out of 10 in every category! Thank you, Gretchen and Luigi, for blessing us with sharing your home with us!
This house, part of which was built in the 1500s, is more than a villa: it's a total experience. The entire estate is imbued with the feel of a grander era, from the statuary in the hedges, to the manicured lawns, to the high-ceilinged bedrooms, to the artful sconces in the upstairs hallway, to the illuminated statue at the bottom of the stairs, to the magnificent views. The house is decorated with original art, lots of books, and comfortable furniture in almost every room. There's a sense of luxuriousness and well-planned design everywhere you turn, and Gretchen couldn't have been more accomodating. She even picked up two members of our party from the train station, which we were deeply grateful for. I can't recommend Villa Poggio Verde higly enough. The extra bonus is the list of day trips provided by Gretchen, all of which provided to be memorable experiences.
We took our adult children, spouses and one year old granddaughter to Italy to be able to spend time together. Gretchen was a marvelous host. She communicated with me in advance to help me arrange a boat tour of Lake Como, gave lots of info about surrounding area, restaurants, and shops. The Villa and grounds are very impressive. Large, beautiful, accommodates a large group and yet child friendly. Bonus, handicap accessible. Hope to return again some day!
We had a lovely stay at this beautiful home. The house is very spacious and grand, dating back to the 1400s. The property is gorgeous, including a great swimming pool and game room for the kids (ping ping, foosball and bocce). The host was extremely responsive and helpful both before and during our stay. She even arranged a private chef dinner for us one night, which was wonderful!
From the time we arrived until we reluctantly left, it was spectacular. Gretchen is a superb host who had an answer or suggestion for all our inquiries. From day trips, booked events, restaurants, and wine shops, everything was the best. The home is elegant with every amenity you would need. The property is well maintained - wonderful scents from the garden enticed us outside. The lap pool is spotless and was used daily.
Chef Maria was the icing on the cake. Our last meal was fantastic. Maria is warm, the consummate professional, and the evidence is in her excellent food. Highly recommend!!
We should have stayed longer! Fabulous and extremely comfortable place, and convenient to lakes region. We even day-tripped, via train, though the Alps to St Moritz.
couldn't have been bette; and, Gretchen is wonderful!
We were a group of three parties with children between 2 and 16 years. The place is perfect as there is lot of space inside and outside. We really loved the terrace with and without roof to enjoy the magnificent view over the huge garden and the landscape. Gretchen was perfect in contact and help.
We stayed at the villa for a few days following a two week tour of Italy. The home and grounds are beautiful and relaxing. We had a chef cook a home cooked meal one night and the proximity to Milan and surrounding lakes. We loved the peaceful nature of the home and all the history. I cannot wait to return!
Norther Italy at it's best. The property is not to be missed. We were 7 people and everyone loved the place. The rooms were beautiful, modern bathrooms and an excellent kitchen. The grounds and the view were awesome.
Hopefully we will be back.
This villa just couldn't be any better. It's a beautiful property. So many amenities. Very comfortable. Wonderful bedrooms and bathrooms. We really enjoyed the outdoor living spaces as well. It's the perfect "home base" for day trips in the area. Gretchen was so easy to work with! Thanks for the great vacation!
My family of 9 just returned home after 10 extraordinary days at Villa Poggio Verde. Combining both elegance and comfort, the villa is a magical spot. It has the graciousness of a century old home with the amenities of the 21st century. A fully equipped kitchen. A/C in all the bedrooms. Good wifi. A movie room. Child friendly with toys and a crib. A fabulous pool with floats and toys. Even yoga mats. We prepared elegant dinners that we ate on the stunning porch overlooking the vistas of Lombardy. The villa is perfectly situated for exploring Lombardy and the small towns on Lake Como. If you are lucky enough to rent Villa Poggio Verde, you will experience the same magic we did.
Cannot recommend the property highly enough. Stunning villa in a magical setting.
We had an long list of wishes and every single one was catered for:
* Screen and projector to watch sports
* Private chef for 12 people
* Trip to Bellaggio with a minibus
The kitchen/portico area are amazing social places. We could have easily spent another 10 days at the property :-)
The villa in Poggio Verde was much more than anything we expected. We nearly didn't see the surrounding, because we didn't want to leave it... The swimming pool, the badminton court, the ping pong table, the piano room, the kitchen and other facilities - everything was perfect. And Gretchen is a perfect host: generous, responsive and kind. We'll sure be back.
Beautiful house with classic furnishings in a lovely rural setting
We loved our stay - Gretchen was so welcoming and helpful. She introduced us to the property and assisted with restaurant recommendations and suggestions of places to see. It is a bucolic setting, which we relished - some may find the location slightly isolated, but Milan is only an hour or so away, and the lakes about an hour and a half. Virtually all en-suite bedrooms were ideal for our party which included people from 9 to 83, and the well equipped kitchen was a pleasure to cook in. We were there during a heat wave, and the benefit of air conditioning in all the rooms (and the kitchen!) cannot be stressed enough! There is huge pool as well. Fantastic local restaurants nearby, but great supermarkets 7-10 minutes away for those who wish to stay home - Gretchen can also arrange for catering! We will certainly look forward to returning should we get the opportunity. Geoff & Emma, London/Hawaii
We spent a week at Villa Poggio Verde. Two families with six kids in total. The place is more than fantastic! We loved to spend time in the garden and the different terraces. The view is fantastic and the pool is simply perfect for both swimming and playing. Gretchen made us feel at home from the beginning, she has thought of everything when equipping this house. We played badminton, ping pong, fussball and even freespee competitions in the pool. Even when relaxing, there is a cinema in one of the big living rooms.
We loved, that the place is right in the heart of the backcountry of lake como. Lecco, como and even Monza are wonderful to visit. We spent a lot of time riding race bicycles around the lake. And can really recommend the hills close to Bellagio. And the cycling museum on top of the Ghisallo hill. We will definitely come back!!
