This very spacious, detached property, converted from a 200-year-old barn, with grain silos 8 yards (toddlers beware!) occupies a peaceful setting on the ownersâ 850-acre working arable farm and pheasant shooting estate. Very attractively furnished and well equipped, it boasts eight en-suite bedrooms (all with TVs), two sitting-rooms, a games room with open fire and pool table, and its own garden with childrenâs play area â making it the ideal choice for three or four families wishing to holiday together. Clay pigeon shooting is available by arrangement, with fishing on site (permit required). The farm is centrally located in the beautiful Camel Valley â a haven for nature lovers and fishermen, cyclists and riding enthusiasts, close to the wild expanse of Bodmin Moor.
An ideal base from which to tour, The Shooting Lodge is convenient for the North and South Heritage Coasts of Cornwall, where to the north, the picturesque fishing villages of Port Isaac and Boscastle, and the old port of Padstow are within easy reach. To the south is the harbour town of Fowey, and the charming villages of Looe and Polperro, each with narrow, winding streets full of fishermanâs cottages and intriguing tales concerning their smuggling past. Partly isolated from the rest of the country, until the railway crossed the River Tamar in the 1860s, this region has retained a wealth of antiquities. For historic days out, St Breock Downs Monolith and the Nine Maidens, Pencarrow House and Restormel Castle, and the National Trust owned Lanhydrock with its 450-acre grounds, are nearby. Whilst a little further afield, scholars of myths and legends will find enigmatic Tintagel Castle â said to be the birthplace of King Arthur, a mystical delight. Ancient Wadebridge, 4 miles, offers a sports centre, swimming-pool and tennis. Shop 1œ miles, pub 3 miles.
The property is located on a working farm.
Children must be supervised on site due to possible safety hazards.
The water is from a spring, well or borehole, and not a mains supply.
Great accommodation for a large family group. Owner friendly and helpful. Good access to various beaches and Camel Trail.

Excellent house for a large group in a good location
We were three families and this house was great for us. Itâs not perfect - beds are a bit uncomfortable and the kitchen, though well equipped is a bit tired, but the house was very good value, very spacious and having ensuite bathrooms was great for our group with lots of young adults. Itâs well located and easy to get to the north or south coasts, and the owners were helpful. We would certainly come again.
Excellent location. Very friendly and helpful property management. Occasional problems finding bits and bobs (itâs a large property!)
But when asking the on-site property manager for help he promptly showed where they were or if they werenât present, provided them by the next day. In one case we couldnât find a broom, bought this to the attention of the owners and a new one popped up later that day.
Very happy holiday had here.
The youngest member of the family enjoyed feeding the chickens the kitchen scraps.
And everyone else enjoyed the countryside and the animals nearby including horses, pheasants and even the occasional bat.
Easy going, relaxed family holiday, including 8 adults, a baby and two dogs, in a large, homely, clean, well equiped, historic shooting lodge. Plenty of activities are possible on the premises and nearby there are a multitude of beaches, towns, historic sites and restaurants (advisable to book during the summer!). The shooting lodge is located on an estate with plenty of woodland walks and a very friendly host family in the nearby main manor.

It was clean and comfortable and the owners made us feel very welcome
The beds could do with replacing. The mattresses are a bit tired and whilst we know that Covid is a challenge right now more crockery, glasses and utensils in the kitchen would have been good
We had a nice week. Thank you

The house has everything you would need for a holiday with a large group.
The house has everything you would need for a holiday with a large group. The house is very spacious, and the fields and woodland surrounding the property is amazing. The owners are very friendly, and totally relaxed about use of the grounds, so lovely if you like walking. The one thing lacking is a comfortable external area. There is a grassed area which is accessible, but not adjacent, so we were not able to eat outside or sit in the sun with ease. People should be aware that this is a working farm with pheasant shooting, so as animal lovers we did find that a little difficult. Overall, a lovely, relaxing holiday!
