Very good hotel, pub & restaurant

This hotel/inn is probably one of the nicest in the world and stands above all others that we visited on our 12 day road trip through Scotland and England in August 2019. From the reception to the nice and communicative bar atmosphere to the silky linen, the jacuzzi (that worked) and the extraordinary breakfast (eggs Benedict), we felt transported onto a new level of comfort.
The String of Horses Inn is a bit isolated, so future travellers should have a little juice left in their smartphones, and use the direction assistance on the Hotels.com website to find this marvellous place. Also, wifi is not at its strongest, so go sit at the bar (17th century), rather than in your room!

Chambre spacieuse correct pour quatre cependant très mal insonorisée (bruit de chasse d eau, éternuements du voisin),
Ménage fait correctement mais il ne faut pas oublié derrière la tv, les lampes de chevet et au dessus des armoires
de plus le personnel n’était pas très souriant, le petit déjeuner n’était pas très fourni : pas de charcuterie, viennoiseries achetées en grand magasin, plus de jus d’orange à 9h
j’ai demandé du lait chaud pour pouvoir me faire un chocolat chaud en 15 jours de vacances c est le seul qui a refusé

Publié le 18 févr. 2024 sur HotelsWe stayed for 2 night's from the 16th until the 18th and sue and colin certainly did well, infact very well indeed. I couldnt of asked for more. The room was amazing, the food was WOW! Sue was such a lovely lady- she couldnt do enough for you! It was the first time i took my giirfriend away :) and lets just say it was an experience we will never forget. Thanks guys. 😊

Difficult to get to because of the amount of roadworks / diversions in that area. The real problem I had was my room it was so noisy I thought I was sitting in the pool room very,very noisy. So I'd advise asking for a quiet room when you book.

Unique old-fashioned atmosphere, great beer, dinner, room a tad small but comfy, very warm personnel, great base to visit Carlisle, Hadrian’s wall and Lake district
