"Home from Home" in the Bannau Brycheiniog with stunning views of the Usk Valley

A beautiful barn conversion situated in a remote but accessible location with stunning views and unrivalled walking straight from the front door. Holly Cottage will comfortably sleep a family of four, and is ideal for couples looking to lose themselves in the wonderful scenery. Whether you want to take advantage of all the activities on offer in the Bannau Brycheiniog, or just cosy down in front of the fire with a good book, Holly Tree is the place for you. The Brecknockshire Camra pub of the year 2022 is 10 minutes walk across the fields, and it's a short drive to the bustling town of Brecon, or the activity hub of Talybont-on-Usk. Footpaths leading directly from the farmyard will take you up onto the hills, down to the Canal, or along the stunning Usk valley. Situated at the eastern end of the central beacons range, you are well away from the crowds that flock to Pen Y Fan but if you want to make the climb its a short drive to the main access points (and experienced walkers have reached it directly from the cottage...).
Start your day with a cooked breakfast beside the picture windows looking out over the Usk Valley, and plan your walk on the wall-map beside you. Picnic on the beacons, or plan the walk to finish at the Royal Oak in the village for lunch, then head back to the cottage to unwind. In the summer, garden furniture and a barbecue will allow you to make the most of the views from the back garden. If the weather isn't so good (and that does sometimes happen in the Bannau Brycheiniog....) light the log burner, and hunker down in the cosy stone walled living room, with Freesat TV, Netflix (account needed) or DVD's for entertainment.

Logement trĂšs confortable et bien Ă©quipĂ©. Facile Ă  vivre. Espace extĂ©rieur restreint mais accĂšs malgrĂ© tout Ă  un petit jardin. TrĂšs belle rĂ©gion : les fiches de circuits de randonnĂ©e nous ont Ă©tĂ© trĂšs utiles. Un seul petit regret qui n’a rien Ă  voir avec la location elle mĂȘme : ne pas avoir pu rencontrer les propriĂ©taires. En louant, nous pensions qu’ils Ă©taient sur place. Rien de grave, mais ces locations avec « boite Ă  clĂ© » ne font pas beaucoup de place Ă  la rencontre. C’est dommage, personnellement c’est ce que nous cherchons, souvent, dans le voyage.

We absolutely loved Holly Cottage! It was clean and had everything we needed. The views were lovely! And we enjoyed our next door neighbors- chickens, sheep and cows (we are veterinarians- but if you are not an animal lover, you will still love it here!). Jonathan was an excellent communicator! Misleading Listing – Refund RequestedThis property was completely misrepresented and unfit for our stay. Key details were omitted from the listing — such as the 15 steep stairs to reach the bedrooms and bathroom — an essential consideration for guests with mobility issues. None of the 37 photos showed these stairs.The cottage was dirty on arrival: popcorn from previous guests on the floor, stained pillowcases, visible mould around windows, and spiders/webs throughout. Windows could not be opened due to missing handles, leaving no ventilation except a ceiling hatch we could not use because of spiders. The garden and parking area were also on a steep slope, unlike the photos.There was no working Wi-Fi; the provided username and password did not connect. For someone who works remotely, this is unacceptable. The boiler next to the master bedroom was loud, and plumbing noise from the neighbouring property made sleeping nearly impossible.We were forced to leave after the first night due to these conditions. The host agreed to cancel the booking but still deducted the cost of that night — despite it being uninhabitable. I will upload photos showing the true condition of the property (excluding mould and spider images out of courtesy).Vrbo’s customer supervisor was professional and tried to resolve the matter, but the host refused a full refund. I request Vrbo to step in, verify the accuracy of the listing, and ensure a full refund is issued.
The top windows are for master bedroom . There is no handle to open them.

Excellent holiday at Holly Cottage.

Ideal setting surrounded by wonderful views of the mountains with nature on your doorstep. Beautiful walks locally, especially the canal walk from your front door. Holly cottage has all you’ll need for either an active walking and sightseeing holiday or somewhere peaceful to relax, take in your surroundings and enjoy a very special part of the Brecon Beacons. A home from home hideaway

We had a wonderful 4 days in your lovely cottage. It was very comfortable and so quiet! Everything we needed was supplied and the kitchen in particular was very well equipped. The surrounding area is beautiful and we knew we had the cottage to come back to in the evenings. The walk to the Royal Oak was just the right length with good food at the end. The TV was a bit variable but we enjoyed the DVDs instead. We couldn’t get the wi-fi to work but that may have been our lack of skill. Thank you for an enjoyable break.

Lovely cottage, amazing location, couple of issues.

We had an amazing stay at this cottage for a few days of walking the Brecon Beacons. Cottage has everything needed, is in a great location for walking and has an amazing pub ‘Royal Oak’ with superb food in easy walking distance. Pity about the issue with the heating and TV didn’t work, but these were minor issues compared to the great cottage. Thank you Richard

Beautiful location

A lovely spot in the Welsh countryside. Great views and nearby walks across the fields to the valley. We did find the driveway a bit difficult in our hire car that did not have a lot of clearance, so once we had unloaded luggage we left the car down the driveway and walked in and out of the property.

A lovely cottage for a stay in Brecon Beacons

A lovely little cottage that had everything you need. We stayed with our two young children. We would definitely stay again and would recommend it, but we have two areas that weren't perfect. Getting the boiler just right took a while. There wasnt enough hot water on our first night, so the kids ended up with a tepid bath and theln in trying to sort that out we set the boiler to come on early in the morning so we could have hot showers - the boiler is noisy and so woke us up very early. After the first night we got the balance sorted and it worked perfectly - perhaps worth speaking with the owner ahead of your trip to make sure everything is right for your first night. Our second issue was with access to the parking, its up a very steep slope off a narrow lane. We have a very long estate car, which made it difficult to access the parking (wheels were spinning on the concrete after rain). We did manage to get in each time, but it was tricky. I imagine with a shorter car it would have worked better, as the angles would be easier. Equally a 4x4 would easily do it. Despite those negatives it was a great place to stay and the communication i had with the owner was very friendly and helpful.

This was our 3rd stay in this place and like always we had a great time. We love having a fire in the evening, plenty space for kids to run around safetly, peace and quiet, fully equip kitchen and games.

Fantastic get away

The pictures do not do this place justice. The location is amazing and the cottage is decorated exceptionally well with everything you could need with nice touches such as having books and games to entertain in between walks. One of the best places we have stayed!

Oase der Ruhe in wunderschöner Landschaft

Sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtetes und durchdachtes Cottage, schönes gemĂŒtliches Wohnzimmer, große KĂŒche mit tollem Blick , Schlafzimmer mit sehr gemĂŒtlichen Betten. Alles sehr sauber und sehr gepflegt, hochwertige Einrichtung. Kleines Bad. Schöne Sitzmöglichkeiten draußen. Alles vorhanden, was man braucht, wir haben uns total wohlgefĂŒhlt. Tolle Lage in den Brecon Beacons, Wanderwege direkt vor der TĂŒr. Einzige EinschrĂ€nkung: der Warmwasserboiler ist in einem Schrank im Hauptschlafzimmer untergebracht und hat uns morgens frĂŒh beim Schlafen gestört. Der Vermieter hat daraufhin die Zeit von 7 h auf 8.30 h geĂ€ndert, wir brauchten auch frĂŒher kein warmes Wasser und ohnehin keine Heizung, so dass das Problem fĂŒr uns damit gelöst war. Die Kommunikation mit dem Vermieter war wunderbar, immer erreichbar, sehr hilfsbereit! Tolle Erfahrung, wir wĂŒrden sehr gern wiederkommen!

Cosy stay in the Brecon Beacons

This is a cosy property on farmland in the Brecon Beacons with good access to the surrounding areas. We used it as a base for the Hay Festival and exploring other attractions. Pub in the village and plenty of walks. Property is clean with everything you need. Outdoor space being on a steep incline, however, not great for younger children.

Beautiful location with amazing views

Location is great, you have the most amazing views from the property and you can start hiking from the front door of the property. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable, very well equipped with everything you need. The kitchen is very well equipped as well, you really feel like you are at home. Nice big garden as well, my kids loved running up and down the garden and you have an even greater view from the back of the garden which sits above the roofline of the property. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is the heating. This is a subjective comment as we live in a very modern and well insulated house so the cottage was very different for us. The bedrooms were always warm but there was a horrible noise when the heating was on from the water tank that is just behind your head when you're in bed in the main bedroom so we didn't need to put alarms on as the noise woke us up every morning. Downstairs none of the radiators worked as there was more air in them than water but electric radiators were provided. Still downstairs felt too cold for us so we didn't spent much time there. The floor in the kitchen was especially cold so I would bring some very warm slippers or socks to wear. Please don't let that deter you from booking this property, it is totally worth it and the owners have put a lot of thought into making guests feel comfortable. The kids absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back there. They especially loved having some DVD's to watch, all the board games provided, the comfortable beds, the view out the window and especially all the sheep and lambs that graze all around the property. There is WiFi with about 20mbs download speed which is amazing considering you're up a mountain on a farm. There is also a fireplace and there were logs there to use if you chose to (with an honesty box to pay for the wood) but we didn't make use of it as we had no idea how to do it safely.
