Location description: Castasegna is the charming village on the border between Bergell and Italy, with shopping facilities and restaurants within walking distance in Italy, combined with a walk along the Maira (valley river). Castasegna is divided into an older farming village and a younger palazzi village (built by wealthy returnees). Castasegna is also the chestnut village of Bregaglia, where chestnuts are harvested in October and various events are organised over a period of 10 days. C. is the southernmost village in the Swiss Bergells. Palm trees, vines, peach and arpricot trees grow here.
