Great location but not charming

The hotel is not charming as it would look in the website photos. I was expecting more of a view for US $ 200 but we were off the reception area, room 1, facing a wall. The room was quite large easily fitting 3 people and the bathroom was very large as well. The hotel is nice but dated and the breakfast is in the reception area. It is sad that a hotel so close to the beach does not have a breakfast room or terrace looking into the water. But the staff is welcoming and helpful. The breakfast is just bananas (organic) and tangerine and muffins (they were good) and the coffee was good as well. Word of caution if you have arthritis in your hand, the door handle is large, round and smooth so very difficult to grip and turn.

I booked a Boutique Suite for myself and daughter. We were put into a disabled room with no bath, and the room was on the ground floor with a laneway nearby - didn't feel safe. I didn't ask for a disabled room and this was not what was advertised when we booked. I spoke to the woman on Reception - no apology. She said they were fully booked and yet the family checking in before us who arrived with an extra person, were given an upgrade. Very poor customer service and they need to offer Boutique Suites that are for able-bodied people and separately for disabled people, otherwise this is false advertising. The position of the hotel is good. I didn't try the coffee or muffins in the morning (a bit of a gimmick) - I prefer a proper breakfast but they have no kichen. And, if you use a sofa-bed, they give you the linen to make up the bed! I will stay elsewhere next time.

Lovely place, great staff, very clean & spacious room. Comfy bed & well stocked mini bar. Beautifully decorated with a great common area. Even a wine tasting on the Friday night. Walking distance to everything and also very quiet. Nice outdoor area & parking. I would definitely recommend and also stay here again.

The free coffee, juice and muffins was unexpected and very welcome. Waves was closed to the beach and nowhere in Byron is far away. Friendly and helpful staff.

We had such a great stay at Waves Hotel Byron Bay! The staff were super friendly and made everything feel really easy from the moment we arrived. They even added a special touch for my wife’s birthday, which made the day feel extra memorable. The location is unbeatable — literally a few steps to the beach and close to all the good coffee and food spots. Traveling with our baby, we really appreciated how accommodating and relaxed everything felt. Check-in and check-out were a breeze, and the room was spacious and clean with a nice view and a great bathroom. Overall, it felt like really good value for the quality and location. Would definitely stay again!
