How close is The Fort Ramgarh to downtown Panchkula?
I loved The Fort, it had enough amenities to match its style, what a beautiful property, if you love history you will love the Fort, the staff are lovely, so friendly, so helpful, the surrounding shops are full of lovely people too. The 4 poster bed I had was the most comfortable bed I ever slept in, they don't make them like that anymore. The food was so tasty too, Im going to go back thats for sure! Excellent value for money too, i thought they were joking when I got my bill :D
The room was delightful with the most amazing large bathroom water was off cold but perhaps that was my fault. The air conditioning was good too but the electrics were very dodgy - I had to hold the plug in while the kettle boiled, not something I would repeat. Information was misleading too; there is no swimming pool which was one of the features that had attracted me.Piped ' music' seemed inappropriate. The hotel is also out of the way so I was overcharged regularly by the local taxi driver. Food is vegetarian, restaurant staff were slow. I was told there was no fruit in an area full of it. I had booked and paid for a further night but chose not to stay really because of the staff and the taxi problems.
The Fort is located about 11kms from the city of Chandigarh. As you enter the huge door, you immediately feel you're in an old palace. It is well maintained with some enjoyable gardens. My room was stunning, furnished with heavy wood antique pieces. I had a huge bed which I climbed on with the aid of a foot stool. The bathroom was spacious with a lot of marble and original brass fittings. I had a television, a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. The restaurant was quite small but pleasantly decorated. The meals were included in the deal ( just as well considering how far it was from the city ) and the food was excellent. The staff were very attentive ( it is, I believe a place used for training young people in the hotel business ) , helpful and kind. The only downside was the closure of the swimming pool and the gym. By the look at the sign, it might have been closed for a while. Better check this before you go.
I was given the wrong room on arrival - not cleaned, sheets on bed left from the previous occupant. When moved to the more expensive room I had reserved, the room appeared to have not been cleaned in years. Shower did not work. Traffic noise was bad enough to require use of ear plugs to obtain any sleep at all. No heat. The place was ~ 40 minutes ride by taxi to Chandigarh, and was not at all convenient to my business there. Upon check out, the staff claimed no knowledge of my payment via Expedia, and attempted to make me pay again for my stay. I recommend staying elsewhere.
