Lovely clean room and very comfy bed. Plenty tea and coffee in the room and towels. We were in room 2 which has its own decking terrace. The main car park is at the back of the hotel and there are a couple of spaces at the front too but both sides have very close access. We had the full English breakfast both mornings which is not included in the booking price but worth every penny. It really set us up for the day. We're just home after a two night stay and have already booked again for our next visit. I would definitely recommend The Moorings.

Terrible Hotel

Upon arrival, problems began immediately: 1. Incorrect Information About Breakfast: The hotel staff insisted that our booking did not include breakfast and gave us Room 6, despite my confirmation email from Hotels.com clearly stating FREE BREAKFAST AT ROOM 5 . 2. No Hot Water: There was no hot water available throughout our stay, which meant we were unable to take a proper shower. 3. Lack of Tidiness : The room looks clean but shockingly, we found a female bra left in the room. 4. No Staff Available for Assistance: When I tried to contact hotel staff for help, no staff could be found on-site. I attempted to phone the hotel multiple times, but no one ever answered. 5. Very disturbed in my room (Room 6) : The toilet in bathroom occasionally made very loud noises, and the floor even shook. I can show you video to prove what I said is true.

Disappointing

Shocked to find no one at reception, after climbing up and down a flight of stairs we eventually found someone in the restaurant to check us in and give us a key. The room was basic but clean. We were then told that there were barley any staff. So the room didn't get cleaned while we were there and we had to pay an extra ÂŁ5 each per night for a cooked breakfast. When we went to the restaurant next morning and ordered our breakfast it was not very nice at all. We had eaten there the night before and that meal was lovely though. We appeared to be the only guests, while we were there we only saw 3 members of staff and they were all very nice and as helpful as they could be. I wouldn't stay there again though, although I have a feeling they may not stay open for much longer somehow.

Although I was the only resident at the hotel that night I was well catered for. I was disappointed the restaurant was closed but it must have been a quiet night. My breakfast was prepared and left for me and entry instructions to the hotel.

We opted for the “cold” breakfast, not realising this was packaged items and “do it yourself porridge pots” left on a counter at the end of the corridor. No table in the room meant balancing on the bed or one chair to consume any of the unappetising items. We were booked for two nights, but the room was not serviced after the first night, so all of the packets from the “breakfast” used cups had not been removed. The bed remained unmade and the bathroom not cleaned. Some of the curtains were dangling and were very thin letting in the early morning light at mid June.

Lovely big bedroom and the bed was super comfortable. Leanne and her team were amazing, they went over and above for us. Food was delicious and big portions. Would highly recommend. We will be back.

Don't miss thins little gem

Lovely place to stay. Room was clean and had everything you need. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. All that at very reasonable price. What's not to like?

We booked into the mooring hotel for a couple of days.The place was perfect as we were going to beamish museum . From the moment we booked in the owners and staff were so friendly they couldn’t do enough for you . The accommodation was perfect exactly what we wanted. We had our own outdoor space .We went to the restaurant for evening meal and the food was delicious and large portions as well.Breakfast was great as well cold and hot food cooked when ordered. The owners were lovely were never to busy for a chat . We will definitely be back and bringing my elderly parents along with us to. Thank you very much for a very enjoyable stay from Denise and Stewart Anderson from methven in Perthshire

We stayed for two nights and hadn't realised the accommodation next to the pub had only recently reopened. There were a few very minor things which needed attention, but were fixed promptly by the staff. The room benefitted from a "two person" bath, which was great for soaking our travel pains away with a glass of wine. From there, we visited the excellent Beamish Museum, a marvellous working museum which needs at least two days to see. Meals were really good with very generously priced breakfasts and attentive service.

A disappointing stay for a number of reasons

A rather strange experience - my booking included breakfast, but on arrival I was told this only included cereal and I was asked to pay an extra ÂŁ5 to receive a better breakfast! However, the following morning, lovely, friendly and helpful Lesley provided a full breakfast without extra payment. Also, the central heating boiler was not switched on and so there was no hot water. The fact that I had specifically found and booked a room with a bath/shower combination turned out to be pointless, as I was unable to have either. Despite all this, the room was large and both it and the bathroom were spotlessly clean. It would have been nice to have blackout blinds or curtains as the room proved to be very light during the night, which meant I did not sleep well. Although I did not need it, the lift was out of action. I also found out that there were no staff in the property overnight. A somewhat disappointing stay.

Fantasic

Fantastic stay. Lovely little hotel in a fab location (very near Beamish and Durham). Rooms were spacious and clean. Hosts were lovely. Very welcoming place. We will definitely stay again when we're back in the area.
