THE HONEST OVERVIEW

Bolivia is different from most destinations in ways that genuinely affect your stay. We put these first so there are zero surprises on arrival.



Altitude — 2,500m above sea level.

• Mild symptoms — headaches, fatigue, light shortness of breath — are possible in the first 24–48 hours, especially if arriving from sea level. Stay hydrated, eat light, and rest on arrival. Guests with pre-existing heart, lung, or respiratory conditions should consult a physician before traveling to Cochabamba.



Electricity — 220V throughout.

• All outlets are 220V — except one 110V outlet in the kitchen. Always confirm voltage before plugging in any device. Plugging a 110V device into a 220V outlet causes permanent damage. Universal adapters available on request — just ask before connecting anything you're unsure about.



Noise — worth knowing before you book.

• This is a lively central neighborhood and noise is part of its character. Two things worth knowing specifically:

• Year-round: A school 3–4 blocks away holds rehearsals that can occasionally be heard inside the penthouse.

• Carnival season (peaks August–February): In the six months leading up to Carnival, rehearsal frequency increases significantly. Bands and dance groups also occasionally perform in Plaza Quintanilla — less than a block away — which can be heard inside. This is one of Cochabamba's most beloved cultural traditions and many guests find it memorable. Guests sensitive to noise should factor this in, especially for stays between August and February.



Plumbing — toilet paper only.

• Bolivia's plumbing cannot handle foreign objects. Flush toilet paper only across all bathrooms — no exceptions. This applies to every bathroom in the penthouse.



Parking — steep garage entrance, read before driving in.

• One covered spot guaranteed; second available on request. The entrance ramp is steep — low-clearance vehicles need to enter and exit diagonally. No remote; the on-site guard handles the door. Paid parking within 2 blocks; street parking fine during the day, not recommended overnight.



Sauna — gas-operated, safety rule.

• Do not attempt to light the sauna yourself if the gas flame is off. Message us and we'll assist immediately. This is a non-negotiable safety requirement.



Hardwood floors — handle with care.

• The second floor has hardwood floors that scratch easily. Use soft-bottom bags when moving luggage upstairs — do not drag hard-wheeled luggage across the floors. Hardwood floor damage carries a repair charge of $500 or more.



WiFi — reliable for general use.

• Occasional drops are normal throughout Bolivia and outside our control. If your work requires a dedicated stable connection, plan a backup.



Good to know:

• No central A/C — Cochabamba is the City of Eternal Spring; the penthouse stays naturally comfortable. Open windows for ventilation; portable fan available on request. Radiant heaters available for cooler months.

• Hot water — works well under normal use. Allow a few minutes to reheat after multiple back-to-back showers.

• Street noise — ambient urban noise is normal. During Carnival (February–March), bands occasionally practice at nearby Plaza Quintanilla in the evenings — a beloved local tradition and one of the more memorable parts of staying here.

• Road blockades — Bolivia's roads can be affected by blockades without warning, occasionally disrupting airport access. Monitor conditions and adjust plans early if traveling during politically active periods.
