This quaint cabin was so unique. We learned that it was built in 1930. This assured us that we were actually staying in a real log cabin. It was very quiet and so serene . We were nestled in by a large oak tree that was estimated to be around 400 years old. There is a path right out the back door that lead to a large limestone rock with a bench we sat on and had our morning coffee as the sun came out . There is a second path that leads to a ladder where you can ascend into the river and swim it was around 10- 15’ deep. We did some fishing and caught 3 nice size cat fish ( catch and release). We also identified what was told to us by Gemini a Cichlid fish which we were told is one of the earliest native fish in the Frio Rio . Also saw some large mouth bass, and a few turtles. The surrounding area was so quiet , we could only hear the birds , and squirrels. , also the owner “Veronica”had humming bird feeders out on our back porch , and we had a couple of them land on my husbands ball cap.
Veronica drove us to a drop off area up river so that we could float down the river, and we traveled down to one spot and the river was low enough that we sat our tube in the dry rocks mid river and had a picnic lunch. Then swam in the swimming hole on each side of the rocks, before continuing down river back to the ladder right near our cabin.
The cabin itself was so clean and very comfortable. We will be visiting these charming cabins again. Thank you Veronica.
