Summer Paws, a semi-oceanfront home in Carova, the 4x4 beach, has everything you need to rest and relax: privacy, ocean views and a short walk to the beach. A Four Wheel Drive Vehicle is Required- Delight in the experience of driving where there are no hard roads! Three night stays are available in spring and fall.
Watch the wild horses and abundant wildlife from the private screened porch and expansive decks on three levels. Stargaze from the hot tub or just take a dip in the private pool. Best of all, bring your faithful furry companion since this home is dog friendly. You won't be able to resist the summer pause that you can experience at Summer Paws!

The owners of this home continue to improve it every year. Their touches include NEW paint, flooring, dining set, living room furniture, rugs, flat screen tvs in every bedroom, outside seating, extended level one deck, cornhole, picnic table and more. So many improvements to the furnishings and decor! Feel the love! :-)

Sunday Check In - 4 wheel drive Required - Linens and Towels provided. - Approximately 9 miles up the 4x4 beach Parking passes for parking two cars on the beach are included with this home. Parking at the house is free and unlimited. Pool and hot tub typically open late May to end of Sept Two dogs considered depending on age, weight and breed. There is a per pet fee and a refundable security deposit. No cats. No graduation groups or events are allowed in any of the houses offered by Carova Cottages.

Just what we wanted!

Our family’s 10th visit to the 4x4! This house is wonderful! It is well cared for, charming, super clean, a well stocked kitchen and great house amenities. We enjoyed mornings and evenings on the screened in porch. We were delighted when the horses visited a couple of times. It was a fabulous stay! Definitely will stay with Summer Paws again!

Beautiful, relaxing vacation spot

We had a wonderful time at this great beach house! The location is perfect - fairly secluded and quiet, but a very easy walk to the beach. The house is clean and well equipped. The pool and hot tub were both great. Sitting on one of the many decks and listening to the waves while horses wandered below was definitely my favorite part.

First Vacation in over 20 Years!

We picked the perfect place to go for our long overdue escape. It was beautiful, clean, quiet! All our top priorities in one place. Watching the horses every morning and evening travel through the yard, in addition to seeing deer, rabbits, and coyotes from our deck was exciting for all of us.

Perfect!

After a very emotional few hours before even leaving for our trip, we had the most amazing time at Summer Paws. We planned to leave at 3am, and around 4pm the evening before, we had realized that the Chevy Suburban we had rented for the trip was a 2wd and not a 4wd as we had requested. Unfortunately by this time the rental place was closed. As was every other rental place on the planet. Laura was awesome. She calmly talked me off my ledge and helped guide me to securing a 4x4 vehicle for the trip (Shout out to Chase at North Beach Recovery for being such a kind human and John at Outer Banks Jeep Rentals for answering the phone even though he was closed for the day and helped us get what we needed!). Once our vehicle was secured we drove down at 3am as planned. We rented a Jeep (from Outer Banks Jeep Rentals, John came in on Sunday, when they are typically closed) and were on our way! The house is as advertised. The perfect size for our family of 3. (We were going to bring our dogs, but be aware there are limitations on the pets they allow. Ours were too large. It was better for us in the end to not have the dogs. But just future renters, be aware.) The location of this house is spectacular. There are partial ocean views and it is so quiet and peaceful. We could walk to the beach (and I did for my morning walk and sunrise) and it was a 1 minute drive, which is nice when you have all your beach gear. We brought our hammock and enjoyed swaying in the breeze reading a good book on the deck under the house. The lower deck and the deck outside the bedrooms were perfect for my morning workouts and yoga. The screened in porch was where we ate every meal. And we drank our morning coffee and evening cocktail on the upper deck. We saw horses EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! One day we came home from the beach to find a horse blocking our entry into the house. He refused to leave and we had to go around the house to get our daughter to the bathroom (and keep our distance)!!! Other days we had 3 or 4 horses grazing all around the house. It was amazing and the highlight of our trip. There is a lot of unique wildlife all around you! (Don't forget your bug spray!) The house was clean and everything was perfect for us. The pool and hot tub were fantastic. (It helped that we had perfect weather all week, too!) Laura was very responsive to the few minor issues we did have during our stay. I highly recommend Summer Paws. It was amazing and just what we needed.

Great summer getaway

The Summer Paws beach house was perfect for our family. It was just the right size for four people and our pup. We especially enjoyed spending time in the pool and the screened in portion of the deck. We were able to see stars clearly at night. Everything we need it was there and we enjoyed the remoteness of the location and driving on the beach was fun! We would highly recommend staying at Summer Paws!

Perfect, Private Getaway, Pup Friendly!

We absolutely loved our week at Summer Paws. The house has more than you could possibly need to enjoy your beach vacay to the fullest- pool, hot tub, grill, lots of deck seating, beach chairs, corn hole, games, puzzles, movies and more! Kitchen fully equipped to do a week’s worth of cooking. You’re on the beach within a 5 minute walk or a 1 minute drive. Our communication with Laura was quick and easy. She was super responsive with any questions. WiFi/cell service was pretty spotty even with the house instructions for router/connection tips, but I personally didn’t find this to be an issue. You’re on vacation! Unplug and RELAX. This house met and went beyond our expectations, and we may just make it a yearly tradition!

Peace at the Beach

Renting this house was one of the best decisions we have made! Staying on the 4x4 beach for the first time was an amazing adventure! My 4 year old loved to just go for drives on the beach! The horses are literally in the front yard every single day! Being out in the middle of no where and away from people and the hustle and bustle was exactly what my family needed. Laura was so great that she is the reason we are renting and returning next year! She is very quick to respond and will do whatever she can to make your vacation enjoyable. The house was very well stocked with pretty much everything you need! Tons of toys and games for little ones; the pool was very clean and very well taken care of - as was the hot tub. We had a few questions while we were there and a few minor instances where we needed to contact Laura - and she responded immediately. The house was very clean, the linens were not what you typically get from a rental (we were skeptical and brought our own just to be safe) but everything was perfect. Thank you for a great week! Can’t wait to come back next year!

Paws, ponies, and pool :)

So the title is a bit of a stretch since the Corolla wild horses are really Spanish mustangs rather than ponies... But what a wonderful home and great property management with Laura and the team at Carova cottages! Great proximity to the beach, well appointed house with a great pool. The horses were in the yard every day. We loved our stay and would return soon!

Summer Paws - a great escape to relax!

This was our first visit to Carova Beach, and we loved it! We loved driving on the beach, the sand roads, and seeing the wild horses. They were in the yard everyday. You won't need to go on a horse tour if you stay at this property! :) It's a big plus to have the private pool to break up the day at the beach (especially with 2 kids)! Our Golden Retreiver and Bernedoodle loved their first trip to the beach and borrowing Saylor's Place for the week. It's a great place to truly relax and unwind!

Awesome NEIGHbors!!!!

What a great week at Summer Paws! The house was so clean and the kitchen was well stocked. We definitely could have used a pancake griddle though😊. A great feature of the house is an enclosed deck with a table and chairs. Our family ate dinner out there almost every night! You are literally a 1 min drive to beach, the house is located right next to a beach access. We had a group of 3 horses that came almost daily. One came up almost to the bottom deck, luckily we had the ropes on so he couldn’t get on! The beach is beautiful and we never had a problem with vehicles driving in front of us, they drive in back of your car. Make sure you have all of your necessities that you need with your or you’ll be driving 8 1/2 miles on the beach back to paved roads to a store. It took us 35 mins every time we needed to get onto paved roads, but it’s Definitely worth it, our family enjoyed every second of our time spent therel, and so did our dog, Lacie!
