Checking was great, and the room was sufficient. However, when I went to use the shower in the morning, the bath had lots of debris, and gunk in it, presumably from the person who used it before. The carpet also hadnât been cleaned, which put me off somewhat. The bedding did seem fresh, but I didnât want to take a shower, or have a tea and coffee in the morning. The cleanliness really let this place down.
I understand that the hotel is under new ownership and so there is naturally teething problems in getting into a good working rhythm, but honestly, I think this place has a LOT of learnings it needs to take on incredibly quickly in order to stay afloat for much longer. Such a shame as the building could be outstanding. It's a natural beauty and could serve the local community really well, but it needs some serious investment to stop it from going to wreck and ruin.
The lovely owners of the delightful hotel Im sure will bring this stunning building back to life. Extremely warm welcome & delicious home cooked fresh high quality food. Stunningly elegant property in need of a bit of TLC but I would certainly stay here again. Peace & tranquility , beautiful views, a genuine county getaway form the hustle & bustle of work & city life.
We attended a wedding and had the best time. Simon worked so hard in difficult circumstances.
The building is beautiful but in need of a fortune spending on it. In saying that we would happily go back
Quirky, historical property set in spacious grounds. Recently taken over by new owners. Homecooked food: my steak pie, mash and peas was excellent and the cooked breakfast was good too - though no cereals! Small but well-stocked bar. Spacious room with freeview TV. Property needs upgrading but it's clean enough and comfortable. Owners friendly and helpful. I'd stay again and wish the owners good luck with their plans.
Quiet & pretty grounds. Clearly quite something back in its day but the rooms are tired, dirty & need refurbishing. No basic house keeping (not even replacement clean coffee cups, bins changed) due to skeleton staff, or may be no staff. Did feel more like a hostel than hotel which is a real shame given the property history. On a positive food was reasonable & interaction with staff we did see was friendly.
The hotel is set in lovely parklands a mile from the local village.
No directions for parking which is actually anywhere opposite the front door.
Expectation was reasonably high when approaching the front door.
A friendly greeting from the host who showed me to my room on the top floor.
The room was fairly basic, no desk to work at, but clean with dated furniture.
The bathroom is in need to a refurb. The shower is just above a dribble with the handset at it's highest point due to low water pressure. Unable to keep the bathroom window open without using a toilet roll to keep the sash up.
Lastly only Decaf coffee sachets which I asked reception for the alternative only to be told they did not have any. The shop in the village was open until 7pm. On a positive note the village pub offered great food, a warm welcome and well priced tasty pub grub.
Give this one a miss until a full refurb has been carried out.
Was a surprise when we arrived to how dated it was but that was the charm as thats what its about. Lovely couple who have just purchased it with great plans for the place. Great food. Will be going back again
