Perfect for our 30th anniversary

Posted Apr. 21, 2024 on HomeAway
This property was perfect. It was such a cute cottage with a wonderful back yard. My dogs are small so one of them did slip out of the yard. We made some adjustments & it didn't happen again. We never walked to the beach but it was a short drive. I would definitely stay here again. And I'm recommending this cottage to my friends!

Quick Weekend Get away

Had a great stay in Crescent City at this cute log cabin. It was super clean, and located just a few blocks from the ocean side. The expansive yard was great for our lab.

Has all the essentials

It's a cozy little place to stay. Plenty of blankets to cuddle up on the couch when it was too rainy to go outside. Just be aware that it's an older building. The kitchen is nice but lacks a dishwasher. There were some ants and rollie pollies in the kitchen and bedroom too.

neighborhood needs upgrade

Posted Jun. 18, 2023 on HomeAway
The owner was easy to get a hold of. Great that the place had a washer and dryer and large fenced in yard. Neighborhood has a couple of abandon homes the owners are going to fix up. They need to put a mirror by the bathroom sink. Heating and air unit is controlled by owners -they turn it on and ask what temp you want it to be, but you are unable to change the temp after it is set.

Hi Mary, we take guest feedback seriously and passed your comments on to the homeowner who would like to share the following: We are glad you chose our home and we apologize for any inconvenience you experienced during your stay. Unfortunately, although we work hard to provide a great environment for all guests, external factors like the neighbor's homes are simply out of our control. There is a window above the sink however, we do provide two mirrors in the bathroom you can see in the photos. We do not control the temperature, there is a remote you can use to control it and we were happy to assist you in using it. We do all we can to make our homes the best possible stays, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests. Thank you for your feedback!

Owner made sure we had everything we needed. Yard was large and fenced for the dogs. Just blocks from the ocean.

Not quite what we expected

Posted May 17, 2023 on HomeAway
My wife and I planned this trip to be a nice get away from life for a few days, and go enjoy the coast and the redwoods. The second we got to the house we both kinda just got a weird vibe from it. All of the surrounding houses were really down ridden. This yard was pretty nice, but when we walked in the house, it didn't feel very much like home. It just kinda felt like whoever built it, just slapped it together as fast as they could, and didn't do a very good job. Some of the cabinet doors were kinda hanging at an angle, and the wall paint was overlapping onto different walls in splatters. The pictures made it look more friendly and bright with the windows open, and nice decorations and flowers around the house. The biggest thing that we didn't like, was the smell. It just smelt really musty, and almost like mold. Every time we walked in, it just smelt weird, and gave us headaches. After the first night, we seriously considered getting a different house for the rest of our vacation, but decided to stick it out. It wasn't the worst thing ever, but it just wasn't as nice as we would have hoped. Wouldn't stay again.

Hi Marvin, the right vacation home is everything, and we're disappointed if this wasn't the one for you. We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following: - We strive to make our 100-plus-year-old house as comfortable as possible for our guests and we’re very sorry to hear that it did not meet your expectations for your stay! The top of the house is the heart of the redwood and the bottom is what they call stick, which is the way many homes were built in the early 1900s. - Although the home is older, we've made sure to install high-end appliances and make upgrades as we can. - We use professional photography for the home, so the features you see on the listing are accurately advertised. - Previous guests had recommended that we add curtains throughout the home, which we have since done, and that may have contributed to the darker feel inside. - The musty smell is part of Crescent City. The home sits out in the ocean (crescent) and due to the foggy, rainy weather year-round, the musty smell is difficult to avoid. We're sorry if this negatively impacted your stay. We do all we can to make the best possible stay, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests.
