Lovely place to stay

Lovely hotel with a really nice garden. The staff stood out as being incredibly helpful and attentive, was really impressed by them. My only feedback would be that it would be nice if the pool had been open.

Hotel was certainly clean, the staff good. However, the extremely officius WhatsApp message compelling me to log in prior to actually checking in was not what I wanted to do after a 200 mile drive!! In the web check-in it requires my nationality. OK fair enough, but searching on a drop down list on a mobile isn't the easiest thing to do on their site, especially when English or British aren't listed. I eventually chose United Kingdom as the closest, but "United Kingdom" isn't a nationality! The rest of the website is useless. We couldn't find a menu, so decided to go out for dinner, checking the restaurant on our way, in case it was OK. It was, and we had a good meal. But with no information in the room or on the useless website they very nearly didn't get our custom. OYO UK, seems very keen on technology, which is extremely badly implemented. The hotel is quite old, and while updated with en-suite rooms and VERY welcome air conditioning, the floor boards creak excessively and sound insulation very poor. Additionally there were various other annoying things, such as there wasn't anywhere to put used teabags! The most basic chain hotels provide things like this.

Arrived late at night and the person checking us in was extremely unenthusiastic (we'd had a 6 hour drive so would've been nice to feel welcomed). We weren't told about usual things such as wifi, breakfast, parking. Later found the pool was closed which was the main reason we booked it. Room had a double bed and a sofa bed.. sofa bed was made even though we only had 2 people staying and new this so would've been better to have it as a sofa and more space. Rooms are quite spacious, nice shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Was a good location for the wedding we went to at ridge farm, was close drive to the down and the vineyard.

Hotel had changed hands "about 3 months ago" yet contact details provided by Expedia referred us to the previous owners. Upon arrival, we asked if our room, given us by the automatic check-in, was a quiet. The receptionist then gave us a different room toward the rear of the property. The food in the restaurant was poor so the waiter only charged for one meal. On returning to our room there was a drone of what we believe was a fan coming from above. Around 10:30pm, there was a knock on the door from the guest who had been given our room via his automatic check-in. Then either guests or staff stopped for a chat and a smoke underneath our window, therefore, with that and the never-ending drone, at about 11:30pm, we decided to leave.
