The whole hotel is in fabulous condition despite its age. The Victorian Era decor feels authentic and the memorabilia throughout the hotel is very interesting. If you want the experience of the Wild West as it was back in its time, this hotel is the perfect place.

I love this historic hotel! The food and entertainment at the saloon was good and fun. Improving beds and parking situation would make it a 5 star hotel for me.
Loved this place, especially the room cards detailing the history of the room and the area. Lots of vintage items from the period as well. The only complaint I had was that the live entertainment wasn’t as described.
Historic hotel with 2 restaurants right in middle of historic Durango. You could walk to many shops, dining places, and shows. We enjoyed a Happy Hour in their Diamond Belle restaurant with entertainment (singer with guitar). The hotel is beautiful to look at the decor, memorabilia and pictures. Check in was easy and staff very helpful. Because it is a 130 year old hotel, Parking is off site in a lot nearby and rooms, especially bathrooms are on the smaller side
This property shares an important history with the town of Durango. Its architectural features takes you back to similar properties located in San Francisco back in the 1870’s.
It is a very beautiful hotel and the staff is very helpful and friendly.
A special thanks to the hotel manager - Mr. Jessie O. for providing us with a personal tour of this beautiful hotel. His kindness and his sharing of the many historical events that have taken place at this hotel was very very special to us.
Thanks!!!
We haven’t stayed at the Strater for almost 20 years and are so glad, that having the opportunity to visit Durango again, we booked a room there again. The friends that we came to meet were enthralled by the music and fun we enjoyed together at the Diamond Belle on both nights of our stay.
The only thing that we missed was an opportunity to have breakfast there like we did on our last stay.
We don’t get to Durango often, and more’s the pity, but we love the town and the Strater is one of the highlights. We will certainly be back!
It was ok. Room and hotel nice. Front desk staff was argumentative on checking in. My Son and I were baffled. I've stayed here each of the last 4 times I've come to town. Likely try something different next trip. The horn from the train at 5 am wasn't so great...
