River Side Mountain Refuge On Vallecito River - Sleeps 9
3 Bedroom, 2 bath cabin in the woods surrounded by water - Cross our mountain stream as you enter the property and enjoy the Vallecito River running through the back. The cabin is privately located in a quiet and relaxing area among majestic ponderosa pines, spruce and fir trees. Enjoy the serene and relaxing atmosphere and watch the local wildlife play among the trees or maybe catch a mule deer drift past. Sit along the river while enjoying an evening fire in the fire ring. There is fishing in the river at anytime. Inside offers all amenities you expect in a vacation cabin. Phone service is by cell service (ATT or Verizon best). The covered deck offers protection from rain and views of the Vallecito river and surrounding area.
Beautiful property with Vallecito creek in the backyard just steps away. House was very cozy and comfortable. My family enjoyed our time and will be back!!
Overall a great place to stay. Pros - The cabin is in a great location on the Vallecito Creek. While a bit isolated at roughly 45 minutes to Durango, it is ideal if you are looking for a quiet place with space to roam, and lower temperatures. The sound of the creek, the ability for the kids to float down the creek a few hundred yards, and the hummingbirds, deer, foxes and other wildlife were what we came to experience. There is not an indoor dining table, but the long deck facing the creek provides a great space to drink coffee, eat, and play board games. Just keep in mind the mosquitos may be out in the evenings (We did not have issues with mosquitoes during the day. Cons - The cabin itself is quite dated, but weâre not a resort style family as we value experiences over amenities. For a pet friendly place, the blue shag carpet may not be ideal and appears to trap excessive dander as all of us had allergy issues inside the cabin, whereas this is not common for us. Stairs to 2nd floor bedrooms are quite steep and hallway railings above the living room are short and open so keep this in mind if you have small children (Was not an issue for our older children). While a clothes washer/dryer is listed as an amenity, they are located at a nearby RV park and coin operated. We could only find 4 towels for 5 people and did not reach out to the owner to find if towels were available, but for a rental lacking a washer/dryer it would be ideal to have extra towels on hand.
This cabin was everything we hoped it would be. The river is a few yards from the house, and we got up every morning and sat by the river and had our coffee. The few suggestions I have is to take some extra towels, for bathing, kitchen towels and hand towels. Also, there is no dining table. Instead, there are TV trays to eat on. There is also a picnic table outside on the wrap around porch. The instructions on the VRBO website say to not strip the beds when you leave, but the instructions on the fridge, sat to strip the sheets off the beds, (or vice versa} so that was confusing. I loved the location and would stay there again in a heartbeat!
This was a great location to get away for a week! We loved the feeling of seclusion, the creek so close, and the fire pit right by the water. Morning coffee was so peaceful on the deck with the sound of the rushing creek. We even saw deer walk through the property during our stay. The house itself could use a couple of updates (flooring, kitchen), but it didn't detract from us having a comfortable stay.
We loved everything about this cabin! The creek, seeing adult deer, serene and solitude but still accessible (~45 minutes) to Durango. Beautiful and we'd absolutely come back here!
This was a great property for our family vacation. The house was very comfortable for our family of 6 and dogs. Being able to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the river flowing was the icing on the cake.
We wanted a quiet cabin getaway to escape the Arizona heat and Steveâs cabin was just that. The cabin is right on a beautiful flowing river at the end of a gravel road. Our dog loved the river and sitting on the covered deck watching the chipmunks. The cabin was clean and cozy and just a short drive away from the lake. Canât wait to go back!
It is exactly as described. Pictures do not do justice to the flowing river behind the house. Everything was great. I do suggest mosquito spray. We were there in early June. We had 6 people and a dog. They even furnished dog bowls. Great place.
The pictures do not give the property justice. Your backyard leads you to the river. Sitting on the deck with coffee or your meal listening to the river is so relaxing. I enjoy cooking and this kitchen had everything you would need. Quiet place to unwind. Be sure to bring bug spray - the only complaint was the mosquitos but it wasnât just there might be time of the year
Cozy house, heater operated so well you could get too hot. About 45 min away from Durango and lots of hiking locations in surrounding area.
Completely enjoyed our stay
This was a restful, quiet cabin with kitchen fully stocked with everything necessary to cook. It is in a beautiful setting of trees with a small river running along side the property
Spent the first week in Oct and it was so beautiful with the fall colors and so quiet and relaxing. The fire pit by the creek was our favorite place to hangout and unplug. Spent our days exploring the surrounding lakes and back roads or Durango is close enough for shopping and entertainment. Would definitely go back again.
Overall the setting is great. The river is right there. Really liked the fire pit location by the river.
The porch was a big hit with the two kids.
Our communication with the host was very quick.
There was a problem with the fridge not working and help was not imminent but we made do using all our freeze blocks from our cooler. There is carpeting throughout the cabin so we removed shoes entering the cabin each time. My only suggestion would be to add a table and chairs for the indoor area. TV trays with kids on carpetingđł!
We just bundled up and ate on the porch. Our weather was pretty tame at the end of September .
Valle itâs reservoir is very close and there are a couple of country stores about 5 - 7 miles away. Durango is a good 50 minute drive. Very pretty at this time of year:)
Our plan for R&R after a rough couple of years came to fruition. River offered peace. A few wild animals that walked nearby reminded us to appreciate Mother Nature. Area was quiet. We felt sheltered from the hustle bustle under the pine trees and infrequent human connections, yet did not feel isolated from the world. My brother wants to live there one day. : )
This gem is tucked away with a nice river flowing in the back that you can walk down to and put your feet in! It was nice hearing the water flow and the covered wrap around porch was nice to sit under with the rain.
We had a fantastic stay at this lovely cabin! The area it was in was incredibly beautiful, with the river right there and the lake an easy drive away. You could tell this cabin has been well used and well loved, and we felt at home here. It had all the amenities we couldâve needed, with plenty of pans, dishes, and silverware in the kitchen. The fire pit by the river was so nice, and we spent a lot of time out there just enjoying the view. Thanks for such a wonderful vacation, weâd love to stay here again!
