Great stay
Posted May 9, 2018 on HotelsThe Birds House is in a lovely location for what we wanted to do visiting family and friends in the Gonubie ares. It was close to the beach and local restaurants. The staff were very helpful with recommending places to eat and get takeaways. 4 of us shared 2 twin rooms. The place was very clean and comfortable. One of shower rooms was a little tired and could have been spruced up. Clean towels every day was much appreciated. We felt safe and secure which was very important to our overseas companion, who had concerns about safety in South Africa. The use of free Wifi was essential to us to keep in contact with family and friends abroad. It was great to have a decent fridge even though it was only used for cool drinks and wine. The BBQ was large enough for both vegetarian and meat BBQs without upsetting anyone. I will go again.

Some charm, but some annoyances as well
Posted May 2, 2018 on HotelsThe finishes undermine the charm of this place. The staff are really helpful and friendly, and breakfast was limited. Unfortunately the room I was in was very drafty which is a problem given the cold sea breeze that comes through there at night. Great place to get away and do nothing. No halaal food options at the venue or close by. Plumbing, as with most hotels, was less than effective.

“Tucked in and cozy”

Pros: The owner came and picked me up at the Citiliner bus depot. Personalized service.
Location: A good choice of restaurants and pubs about a block away.
Safe, shady neighbourhood for walking to nearby restaurants and pubs. Character house from another era. Had a corner room upstairs with a fresh through breeze. Large ensuite bathroom with roomy shower and a long bathtub with claw feet. Very quiet, good sleep.

My stay was just a disaster, room was not organised even TV set was not in good order have to move to another room which was not better @all shower and hand basin so small, matress is sagging, i was so disappointed. You also charged me VAT whereas the place company is not registered for VAT. According to their statement I was supposed to pay only R510

You get what you pay for
Posted Dec. 22, 2016 on HotelsArrived to a lack-luster confused check in. They didn't have my booking nor payment. After providing these I was taken to my room which had a really musty smell although it all looked clean. I was then approached again & asked to contact the owner to provide 'proof of payment' which I did. The outside couch looked really grimy so didn't bother trying it out. Cable tv was a consolation and room amenities were nice (crockery, cutlery, kettle, microwave & fridge). Didn't sleep much due to the very uncomfortable bed & awoke with an absolutely insane backache. Breakfast was sufficient. As my title suggests you pretty much get what you pay for although I've had quite a bit better at this room rate.
