Rooms are small, showers and bathroom are outside and inconveniently located. As our previously booked room wasnt suitable we were downgraded, but as we complained to the new owner she has helped make our stay more comfortable and we appreciated her support. I hope to one day re experience this accommodation after the new ownership has made changes and look forward to a better experience.

This motel was amazing. It was spotless clean and had everything you needed. What was extra special was the little touches to make you feel at home, a warm blanket and little coffee pouches and treats on the bed. We would absolutely recommend this place to stay.

Mackenzie Motel was lovely. You would not necessarily guess from the outside but once you enter, you can’t help but be made to feel at home. The design, amenities, private porch area and little courtyard are very cute. Nice to have the refrigerator and the little candy treats. Beds very comfortable and price just right. Also a quiet little town perfect as a stopover on our way to Christchurch,

I don't like leaving bad reviews, but I do just want to recommend to anyone looking to stay here, it would be very worth it to upgrade to one of the main rooms rather than the budget friendly backpacker "cabin". The unit is basically a large metal box, so if you have anyone staying next to you, you will hear (and feel) everything they do. Any time one of my neighbors moved, closed a door, or sneezed, my unit shook. All that being said, I would still recommend staying here for the location and facilities - it is a lovely little motel, I just had a bad experience in my particular unit :)

Very clean, huge bed, kitchen well equipped with plenty of fruit, breakfast serial, milk, salt/pepper etc. Unfortunately practically all shops closed after 4/5 PM (bakery reopens at 6am)
