Escape to Music Mountain House, a beautifully restored 1800s farmhouse tucked on private acreage in the southern Berkshires, just minutes from Lime Rock Park and the chamber music concerts at the nearby Music Mountain concert hall, and a short drive to Hotchkiss School, the Appalachian Trail, and the waterfalls at Great Falls.
This 4 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom home comfortably sleeps up to 8 guests across three queen bedrooms plus a cozy fourth bedroom with a queen sofa bed and its own en suite half bath, ideal for multigenerational trips, reunions, or two families traveling together.
Inside, a farmhouse kitchen with a professional gas range and butcher-block island anchors the home, opening onto a dining area warmed by a large stone fireplace. Step outside to a wraparound porch, a stone fire pit built for evening cook-outs, and gardens surrounded by open lawn and woods — all on a quiet private road.
You're centrally located for exploring the Litchfield Hills and southern Berkshires: watch the races at Lime Rock Park, hike Bear Mountain or the Great Falls loop, catch a summer chamber music concert at the Music Mountain concert hall, ski or bike at Catamount, or spend an afternoon on Lake Wononscopomuc in nearby Lakeville. Salisbury's shops and restaurants, and the galleries and dining of the greater Berkshires, are all a short drive away.
Whether you're here for a quiet long weekend, a race weekend at Lime Rock, or a full week with the whole crew, this farmhouse gives you space to spread out and a home base close to everything the region has to offer.
Bonus: a detached guest house/studio on the property offers a queen bed and electricity, and can sleep 2 additional guests for larger groups. Please note the guest house has no running water or bathroom of its own — guests using it will walk to the main house for water and bathroom access. Available as an add-on for an extra fee; message us to add it to your stay. The guest house is available May through September only.
Outdoor living is the heart of this house. A large front porch has a sitting area and a dining area, there is a balcony off the primary bedrooms, and a garden dining area sits among the gardens. Walk the woods on five private acres, follow the stream, play croquet, rest in the hammock, or gather around the fire pit and charcoal grill. Nearby you'll find favorite vintage and antique markets in Millerton and Canaan, apple picking, local farms, and skiing at Mohawk Mountain, Butternut, and Catamount.
Inside, bookcases throughout the house are full of inspiring books to read by the fire. The kitchen is set up for cooking together, and farm to table restaurants are close by. We also keep a list of approved local vendors, including personal chefs who can cook here at the house. Services are arranged separately and paid directly to each vendor. Just ask and we will connect you. Lake access is nearby too.
Please note: one upstairs bathroom is counted as a half bath while its shower and tub are being renovated. The house has 3 full bathrooms with working showers or tubs, plus this half bath.
