The Space:

Castaways 1C, hosted by Current Tides, is a Gulf-front condo in Gulf Shores offering comfortable accommodations and direct beach access. With 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, this unit sleeps up to 8 guests and is a great fit for couples or small families looking for a convenient beachfront stay.



The open living area includes a queen sleeper sofa, large TV, and space to relax after a day at the beach. The dining table seats six, and the galley-style kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed for preparing meals during your stay. Beautiful unobstructed beach views with an easy 2 minute walk from inside the condo to ON the beach! Kitchen fully stocked with everything we needed for a family of 5. Listing was accurate as far as amenities etc. The tile floor was sandy already when we checked in even though we had not been to the beach yet. Decent space for the price - nothing fancy/pretty basic finishes and furniture. . . Several broken things around the place (one handle broken off on the outside of the slider to the balcony, hole in the wall of one closet like a hook or shelf came down, lots of scuffing on walls, trim etc).

The beds were very hard. We all came home with body aches. The condo was decent until you took a close look. Then you could see the patch work and sloppy repairs that have been done. There is mold on the bathroom ceiling and walls. The dryer will not dry a load of clothes in one cycle. The drains in the bathroom tubs and sinks were very slow to drain.

We would stay again! We've stayed at Castaways (other units) for years & were excited to check this unit out! The staff who assisted us through the booking process were amazing! They quickly answered questions & kept us feeling confident in the process. We did find that the unit was not very clean when we arrived (grimy/gritty floor where sand hadn't been cleaned, showers were dirty, etc.). The property managers sent someone over the day after check in & they did a thorough cleaning. Also-the toaster didn't work & they had a brand new one delivered very quickly. The customer service & ability to reach out conveniently via text was GREAT! We can overlook the problems when they are addressed quickly & kindly-& these were!! A few notes: the chair in the living room is NOT comfortable. Once you sit in it, you feel like you're being pushed forward. It didn't allow you to lean back & relax. The couch in the images is not the one that is there now. The current one is bigger than a loveseat, smaller than a sofa. We couldn't really sit as a family in the living room with the furniture that is there now. The showers are very aged/yellowed & the ceiling above them is cracked & needs repair-but it was all functional. Also, the dryer required 2 cycles to dry even a small load. The sliding door track (door over slides) & threshold (not secure) needs addressed also. Even w/ those things, we would stay again!! Service/facility was great!!

Other than some minor plumbing & HVAC issues, we enjoyed our stay, especially with the beach being just steps away. The views were great.The unit is located right above the pool, so if you had the doors open to the balcony, you heard all the noise coming from the pool area.

Great location

This property has a great location. Walking distance to many different bars and restaurants and shops. Right on the beach with a great ocean view. The balcony is right above the swimming pool. This unit is not updated, however, we didn’t spend much time in the condo anyway. We were there for a baseball tournament and it was very close and easy access to the fields. Kitchen is stocked with anything you would need to cook. The master bedroom is huge and the bed was comfortable. Communication is through text messaging with the property manager, who gets back to you in a timely manner.

No lobby but just phone with questions and promptly answered. Elevator areas could be spruced up especially fan grates. Room floor was extremely dirty resulting in black feet. Living room sofas need replacing, they sink when sat upon. Very large kitchen well furnished, tv with lots of channels. Plenty of towels.nice pool including a shady are. We would stay again since these are correctable

Very cheap and uncomfortable furniture. Had booked for 6 weeks and had to rent furniture from Foley at our expense. Both toilet ran constantly if we didn’t jiggle the handles. Also sink in master bathroom dripped constantly. All was reported but nothing was done. Cheap patio chairs and table. However kitchen was well supplied with dishes, pans & utensils.

Easy to beach and parking lot

This is an older property in general but this condo has been updated and is open and spacious. Beds are memory foam and comfortable as well as pillows. We had some maintenance issues that were addressed promptly (though not sure why 3 of the sinks did not drain upon arrival). The rental company brought extra hangars since the master only came with one. Patio furniture could use an upgrade. Chairs are pretty uncomfortable (Made of PVC piping) and sit very low to the table. My sister's unit on floor 8 provided beach chairs and umbrella. This unit provides nothing, so we brought our own and used them for the patio as well. For a week's stay, they do not provide enough toilet paper, trash bags, dishwasher pods, or washer pods, so pack some extra to avoid a trip to the dollar store. This unit did not even have salt and pepper, let alone any basic spices or anything, though it did have plenty of coffee filters. :=) The biggest advantage to this unit is that you can easily access the beach and the parking lot with only one flight of stairs. The elevator in the building is very slow and on the first floor, we couldn't even get it to stop at all, so we had to go to ground floor and call the elevator to visit my sister on the 8th floor. Parking is very very tight, especially when people park large vehicles in compact spaces and can't park in between the lines. With that said, while frustrating, it is usually doable with a bit of finesse but leave extra time coming & going.

A Time Was Had!

We had the most amazing time here! Age ranges from 55 to under 1 and I think each one of us had just as much fun as the other as there was space and activities for all of us! In walking distance to so much! Easy process and we hope to be back sooner than later!

Week for spring break

This property was amazingly beautiful and clean. Had everything we needed for the stay. Balcony right over the outdoor pool which made it nice to watch my kiddos while they were swimming and the ocean view and short distance to the beach was excellent.

Great condo in a great location!

This is our 3rd spring break in Gulf Shores. We usually stay next door but decided to stay at Castaways this year. We had a first floor condo so we utilized the stairs. Condo was well furnished! Every thing we needed for our stay. I was very surprised the refrigerator had an ice maker! Great addition! My only complaint was there parking lot. The spaces are too narrow. Luckily it’s a small complex and we made it work. Will definitely consider this for next year.

Excellent location.

Loved waking up to the view from the Balcony. Got to see dolphins even one morning. Great location to food and activities. Fit our group of 6 pretty well. The building is an older building. No gym, heated pool was broke so freezing for our time of the year, love they have a beach toy/item area you can borrow for the day. Are there things that can be improved yes... No potholders, lack of skillets, shower head. Did we have a great family time making memories yes. Loved location to the elevators made for easy in and out. Think they just need to stay a week themselves and see some small details that could be improved, but for the fall season it was affordable and a great getaway.

Our family had an awesome vacation!!!

The unit was updated and clean. Great location!!! Being on the first floor was very convenient. We had the pool right below us and the ocean right in front of us. Older building and parking was tight but we had no issues. We would definitely come back !!!!!
