Worst hotel we have ever been to. We felt so unsafe we left after an hour after an altercation between a guest and reception and going in to our room to find nothing like the pictures or reviews. Got to room to find broken stairs to climb, blocked toilet, ripped curtains, very run down, windows didn’t close etc. Refund was refused which was really disappointing seeing as we didn’t even unpack.

The "Superior Queen" room was two mattresses pushed together, which meant a couple couldn't sleep together in the middle of the bed , but instead had to sleep separately on each side of the crack between the 2 mattresses. We were also told there was a dining room to have breakfast, but there was not. There was not booklet in the room regarding the hotel and its services or what was available, along with safety instructions in case of emergency. No ice available, rail in bathroom fell down when you tried to take the towel off. Shampoowas supposed to be conditioning but left my hair in a tangle. Booked and paid for 2 nights but only stayed the 1 night. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone i know.

The whole place is not good. The Staff were not that helpful, I was charge extra for parking, the parking place was very small and terribly looking. The room is nothing compare to what it’s on the website, windows do not have protection agains noise given it is located on the CBD, you could hear all the noise. The place is old and dirty, the bedroom was smelly, one of the lamps did not work and the room was dark. The power went off two times, the air con was super noisy (not sure if it has been serviced). Not a good experience at all for the cost.

We liked the size of the room We didn't like that the property as a whole was old and tired and things were worn, eg. windowsills were rotting, the stair rails had been fixed with bits of metal The toilet broke during the night, fortunately my husband is hand and managed to fix it but found it had previously been repaired with wire which had rusted. The room smelt damp. The reception staff were polite but not really welcoming, seemed a little disinterested. We had asked for a late checkout but then found we'd been locked out of our room when we got back after breakfast The location was handy so we could walk to places to eat.

We liked that the accommodation was in the central city and easily walkable to shops, restaurants and surrounding areas. The beds were very comfortable. Although we were aware that the VR is a very old building, and relatively inexpensive, the decor of the place is also very old and rundown. There was paint and wallpaper peeling off and signs of water damage was evident (we couldn't smell dampness though). With it being central city, you do get a fair bit of noise from the street - due to old building/no double glazing etc.
