The Neighborhood: Battery Point is one of Hobartâs most picturesque and historic suburbs, known for its beautifully preserved Georgian and Victorian-era architecture. Originally established in the early 19th century as a maritime village, the area has retained much of its old-world charm, offering visitors a unique glimpse into Tasmaniaâs colonial past.
The suburbâs quaint streets are lined with sandstone cottages and elegant mansions, with Arthur Circus being a notable highlight â Australiaâs only Georgian-style circus. The circular park is surrounded by heritage-listed cottages that once housed workers from Hobartâs early days. Another iconic feature is Kellyâs Steps, built in 1839, which connects Battery Point to the bustling Salamanca Place below. These steps provide a scenic route down to Salamancaâs famous weekend markets and lively waterfront cafes.
Battery Point is also home to cozy cafes and restaurants, like the popular Jackman & McRoss bakery and Da Angelo Ristorante, offering local flavours and welcoming atmospheres. The village vibe is complemented by stunning views of the River Derwent and Hobartâs waterfront, making it a peaceful retreat just a short walk from the cityâs CBD.
With its charming blend of history, beautiful architecture, and proximity to Hobartâs attractions, Battery Point offers visitors a serene yet engaging escape in the heart of Tasmania.

Taxis and ride-sharing services are also readily available. Additionally, there are bike rental options for those who prefer to cycle around the area.

Very well located and comfortable home for our few days in Hobart
modernised cottage, spacious and comfortable and with easy access to Salamanca Place and the harbour. Enjoyed having two separated bedrooms (one upstairs) with their own bathrooms, which worked well for two couples to stay. Cosy and warm living area
We were divided over this property. We would definitely return however our friends said they would not. The main reason was that we were only given one key which was quite inconvenient also for the reason of fire safety. There is no back door and no other exit apart from the front door. Other little things included no bins in bathrooms and was surprised no Nespresso machine but they are only minor. Location wise couldnât beat this house, nor could you beat the cleanliness. Beautiful automatic ignition fireplace made it very relaxing in the living area.
