Dave's Place of Hot Springs, NC
Welcome to Dave's Place, nestled 20 minutes from downtown Hot Springs! This 2-acre property boasts a two bedroom cabin and a separate outbuilding for entertaining and relaxing. The cabin has wheelchair access up the front entry (ramp) and has a front and back deck for sitting and star-gazing. The yard is level and easy to walk about, and is perfect for hosting a campfire or lying out in the sunshine. It is a relatively private location, serene, quiet, and peaceful. From the property, you can listen to the rushing waters of Meadow Fork Creek some 200 feet down from the home. PLEASE NOTE: The driveway is steep, at a 50 degree angle. Please arrive in an AWD or 4WD vehicle for your safety going up, as the incline is about 50 yards up before making a left to continue toward the cabin. It is a gravel driveway.
The main bedroom has a queen sized bed. Linens are provided, so long as you agree to wash them before you leave, otherwise you are welcome to bring your own to avoid starting a load of laundry before you leave. The guest bedroom holds two twin bunk beds and the living room has a queen sleeper sofa. There is one bathroom with a toilet, shower, washer, and dryer. The living room has reliable fiber wifi and a Roku TV you can login with as a guest to customize your streaming services, with a strong signal throughout the property. The kitchen has a 3-stool bar overlooking the back patio and you may also eat and relax in the dining room, which has a six person table.
The cabin is stocked with non-perishable food, spices, and basic toiletry needs due to its location away from town. Please contact me for recommended provisions/advice about staying. The home is very safe and for those who are wary of wild animals, I can say that in 5 years the only animals worth mentioning are the racoons and a black snake that I have seen on occasion (sorry, no bears--let's keep it that way).
The cabin is not gigantic at 800 sq ft, but the property provides lots of outdoor spaces, including a front and back deck, and the outbuilding (nicknamed the barn). The barn is a 20 x 10 enclosed deck with chairs and a lounge seat, with bifold windows that can be opened and closed for the views and sounds of the rushing waters and nature. Please see pictures and feel free to ask questions to learn more.
As the property owner, I would recommend this cabin for vacationers who want to relax and enjoy their surroundings. It is a great place to embrace the outdoors, read a book, grill outdoors, watch movies, enjoy your beverages, and listen to music. You have privacy, and there are also other homes that are rented/occupied within a half mile of the cabin, so you won't have an "I'm in the middle of nowhere" feeling. There are several hiking spots nearby, especially Max Patch, which is a short drive away. Due to the home being high up (at 2800 ft), I would recommend strict supervision for small children, as the yard is flat, but the drop from the ridge is very steep and I would not let children wander unattended.
This cabin is not a luxury home, but it is very comfortable and easy to manage. I am an excellent communicator and if you have questions prior to renting, I will gladly provide the information you need.
I am very grateful to be able to rent the cabin once again since Hurricane Helene. Every summer, the blackberry bushes behind the house are ripe and the roar of the creek can be heard year-round. Holly and I love to listen to music and read in the barn the most, and look at the surrounding mountains every time we go there. We love opening the windows and inviting the sounds and scents of the area inside, as will you.
As the owner, I prefer to have guests who are conscientious and common sense who will treat my home with care. It is truly a unique and beautiful place, simple and tidy, no frills, safe and comfortable, and it is really a gem to be there in the heart of Madison County, NC. Please, as always, ask questions before renting and throughout your stay about this wonderful escape.
Additional Description:
Located 20 minutes outside downtown Hot Springs, NC in the heart of Spring Creek, Dave's Place is the ideal spot for a couple's getaway or family of four (ideally). The house itself is 800-sq feet inside, featuring a master bedroom with a queen-sized bed, Roku TV, with closet space and linens available to use. It is the perfect bedroom to open up your window and listen to the rushing waters of Meadow Fork Creek in the distance.
The second bedroom boasts bunk beds with twin mattresses, perfect for children or friends joining you, with a closet and storage areas as well. Both bedrooms have ceiling fans and mattress encasements for each bed for your comfort and peace of mind. The house has a comfortable living room with sofa, sofa-bed (couch w/ queen bed), Roku TV, and DVDs to watch. The house has great Fiber Internet that is available throughout the property, inside and out! The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, microwave, fridge, and oven. There is no dishwasher, unfortunately, but there are so many other items available at your disposal. With the town of Hot Springs being 20 minutes away, the house is stocked with extra food items (non-perishables) in case you need something (canned items, pasta, cooking oil, baking needs, etc). The house is also a short drive from Trust General Store and the Meadow Fork Community Store for food, gas, propane, and household items you may want. The kitchen has a beautiful view of the yard, where there is a recessed firepit lined with stones for you to use. Along the window is a three stool bar for you to eat in the kitchen for a casual breakfast, or you can utilize the dining room, which has a table and chairs for 6 people. The dining room sits adjacent to the kitchen and has its own pantry, which includes food and supplies, should they become needed. This pantry also has emergency food, small tools, tupperware, and replacement items such as light bulbs, just in case. The dining area opens up to one of the home's decks. The deck off the dining room is a great star-gazing area and you are welcome to access any of the fold out chairs anywhere on the property. This property is unique in that it rests at about 2,800 ft, but the land is situated in a flat area carved into the mountain, where you are easily able to walk around and get full sunlight. To enter the home, you may gain access from the front (which is wheelchair-accessible), which has a ten foot ramp onto the main deck. The main deck to the cabin is a covered deck with a storage bench for shoes, chairs, etc that you can access to store your belongings or just sit and listen to the sounds of the rushing waters. The house operates off well water, and there is a Brita pitcher in the fridge as well. In the bathroom (just one), there is a toilet, shower, washing machine and dryer, towels and handcloths, and bathroom supplies, should you need them. As for heating, the house has a kerosene burning monitor built into the living room and heats the whole house in minutes--easy to operate, no kerosene fumes, and can be adjusted for whatever room temperature your prefer. In the summertime, you may not need AC at all, but if you like to keep it cooler, feel free to close the windows for the AC unit in the living room to cool you down. With the house being only 800-sq feet, these simple conveniences will make your stay quite comfortable. The living room has a ceiling fan and you may also use the tower fan or feel free to plug in your own for more air circulation. The best part of the property, in my opinion, is the barn (as we call it). Fifty feet from the house is an outdoor covered deck that sits on a ridge about 100 ft above Meadow Fork creek. It is the ideal hang out spot with bifold windows that you can leave wide open or close up. You may use the gas firepit and the Little Buddy propane units to keep you warm, or simply turn them on for ambiance. And should you run out of propane, you can easily take the tank to Trust General Store, Sara Jo's in downtown Hot Springs, or to the Meadow Fork Community Store for refills. The barn is carpeted inside and is well ventilated with an arched aluminum roof. Inside there is a stereo available and stringed lights above you for as much illumination as needed. Simply take the extension cord you see in the first window and plug it into the outside receptacle of the house for electricity for lights/stereo, etc. It is a 20 x 10 ft space with fold out camping chairs and lounge chair to lie back in. More camping chairs are in the porch storage bin for your convenience. It is the perfect place to read, drink your beverages, and even dance if you like! Along the property, in the spring and summertime, help yourself to the blackberry bushes behind the main house. The property is loaded with beautiful fragrant wildflowers, and it's simply a gorgeous place to walk around. You are not in isolation, but you have plenty of privacy as there are neighbors within a half-mile in either direction. Meadow Fork is an easy road to travel to get to Asheville or Hot Springs, and there is an abundance of hiking to do in the area. From the house, the most convenient drive is to Max Patch Mountain, which is a bald meadow mountain with 360 views, and is the absolute gem of Madison County. You can also access sections of the Appalachian Trail from nearby Garenflo Gap or in Hot Springs itself. Other hikes include the Rocky Bluff campground (10-15 minute drive) which has two trails, Lover's Leap, or check out the Rich Mountain Fire Tower or the ancient Paint Rock area near the French Broad river.
