The good points are that the rooms were large, bed was comfy, refreshment tray was better stocked than usual, a very good breakfast, friendly and attentive staff and a convenient location right on the front. It was also a low price that would usually reflect excellent value for money. It was also busy for the time of year with a range of different guests.
However, the bad points are that the stay was somewhat ruined by the (rightly very loud) fire alarm going off at 1.10am and then again briefly at 1.45am followed by a guest loudly knocking someone's door for ages at 3am. This was raised with staff in the morning who said that the guests had been dealt with overnight, had already been removed & would not be returning. Whilst unreasonable guest conduct is clearly outside the direct responsibility of the hotel and prompt action taken, I do think on reflection that other guests should have been refunded some of their night (with the hotel then reclaiming costs incurred through a civil action against offenders). If you stay at a hotel, you expect a reasonably comfortable night & not to be persistently disturbed in the early hours.
My room also smelt of smoke despite the no smoking signs along the corridor, wifi was intermittent and the walls were thin so noise was transferred from around the hotel. All bearable though (especially taking the good points into account) but the disturbed night was not. I don't know if this was just very unlucky but it put me off returning.
