We had a wonderful week after Christmas at the Lodge at Kahalo. We are three generations of family (ages 5 - 79) who frequently vacation together around Christmas. This was one of our favorites! The house was very comfortable for our large group. There were multiple comfortable spots for people to be alone or together both inside and outside (game room, porch, hot tub, living room). Someone was always in the hot tub (text Kaili and she will turn it on remotely so it is warm when you get back from the volcano or beach). Beds were very comfortable. Plenty of towels and supplies to start. Kitchen was well equipped for cooking with our foodie crew - and plenty of plates and tableware so that we could eat without washing up constantly. The Blackstone grill was a hit - we ended up using it for breakfasts and dinners (perfect for making okonomiyaki!). The house is at 2500 feet elevation, so is about 10 -15 degrees cooler than the 85 degree beach nearby. We loved the tranquility and beautiful sunsets from the hot tub. We could have been happy spending all our time at the house, but ended up exploring the island most days. There is a fantastic beach about 15 min away, but the beaches we liked the best were further. Hilo is 1hour. Two-step snorkeling is 45 min (spinner dolphins swam up to us even though we were told to stay away from them!) Driving was an enjoyable way to see the different micro environments of the island. The manager Kaili was very responsive and thoughtful.
