Fabulous House with Stunning Sea Views to Skye. By NTS gardens. Great Privacy.
Standing above Lochalsh in its own secluded grounds and surrounded by the National Trust for Scotland woodland gardens. South facing and in a magnificent setting with wonderful views of sea and the mountains of Skye rising to over 1000m. Although extremely private, lying along its own track of around 300m, it is only 3-4 minutes by car to Kyle of Lochalsh which has a railway station (the scenic railway line to Inverness really is world famous!) a bank, shops and an excellent supermarket. There is also a smaller supermarket and Post Office about a mile away. Our garden has a large lawn and is planted with Magnolias and mature species Rhododendrons from Bhutan, China and Nepal and which flower from February until August. Doubled glazed with fitted carpets throughout; night storage heating and wood/coal burning stoves; both off-peak and instant electric hot water. If you want to keep in touch, we offer free Fast Fibre Wireless broad band WiFi. It is a wonderful location with great privacy. The skies above us in winter are ink-black and intoxicating - perfect for star-gazing! (when did you last see the Milky Way .....?!)
Very special location.Cool, spacious house. Some parts are a bit oldâthink of the bathroom and kitchenâbut everything worked just fine.My advice is to replace all the pans in the kitchen with ones suitable for an electric stove. But overall, a very beautiful, unique, and enjoyable location.
Great location, very comfortable cottage! We were 2 couples staying and found it spacious and loved waking up and overlooking the water! Check in is simple, the cottage well equipped and there wasn't anything more we needed. Anna is excellent about communicating and has great suggestions. A short drive to the bridge to Isle of Skye as well!
Amazing. Comfortable and welcoming. Beds were comfortable, kitchen was well equipped. Loved the big soaker tub and shower. Heated towel racks were great. The views were fabulous. Easy access to Isle of Skye. Did a day trip to Loch Ness. Directions and instructions for arrival were great! We were challenged to operate the oven because the âlabelsâ are faded and we donât know the symbols (easy fix with a permanent marker). We had a 9 passenger van. It was tight to turn around at the top of the drive - not a problem, just a heads up for folks. Ask about parking elsewhere? Great spot!!
The vintage cottage was quite charming. Our family enjoyed the close proximity to Isle of Skye and the tranquility of being nestled in the woods after a full day of exploring. As others have stated - the views were beautiful, even in the rain!Host communications was excellent. They provided clear instructions and a list of things to see and do in the area. Home is close to groceries and dining options. Kitchen is stocked with all of the essentials. Beds are comfortable and extra blankets are available.
The cottage is dated and although it was clean we felt it could have had the heating a bit higher to stave off the damp (it rained every day). We were renting a long car (Volvo XC90) and the access and ability to turn the car was very tight. The views from the cottage are stunning, even with low cloud and rain. It was lovely to sit with a nice warm fire.Access to Skye and Plockton was easy and we enjoyed some beautiful scenery and excellent beer and food. Many places close Sunday and Monday, but luckily not the Co-op. Don't buy wood at the Kyle hardware store, we were charged 10.50 a bag.Overall a lovely 3 days and I would go back.
This was a wonderful place to stay in Balmacara, near Kyle of Lochalsh. The neighbors told us the history of the house. The area was wooded and quiet! I cannot recommend this place highly enough!
After a few issues with the heating (which were resolved by host quickly), we really enjoyed our stay in this traditional cottage. Warm, comfortable, spacious, good views to Skye, host very responsive and helpful.
This renovated cottage would be best for a family rather than elder adults. We found the stairs daunting and the tub unsafe climbing in and out. All the furnishings are adequate , some updating to the lounge furniture, beds, pillows would certainly enhance the stay. Access to the closet in the second bedroom would help. The one call to the manager was never returned. Once we found our way in, the quiet, peaceful setting was greatly appreciated.
This is an older, historic home with lovely views of the lake. The home was well appointed and was great for our 3 days. Would definitely recommend it.
It was the perfect place to stay. It is on Loch Alsh and has wonderful walking trails around the property. Close to Skye and Eilean Donan! We loved it!
This cottage was exactly as promised. The views were exceptional. The location was perfect. It was clean and spacious. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
Beautiful scenery, property very clean, spacious, cosy.only difficulty for us was the bathroom being on the main floor and bedrooms upstairs as the 4 us over 60 and 2 with mobility issues made it a little hard , otherwise perfect
The location of this property is nothing short of spectacular. The property however was disappointing. The owners have tried to maintain the property in the light of its age but sadly the world has moved on since the 1960's. The downstairs bathroom and toilet are a bit daunting if needed in the middle of the night and the single facility for potentially 6 people required one to form an organised line for ablutions. The kitchen was of its time with the feeling generally was that one had gone back in time. As mentioned the location is wonderful and that does help explain the price but I think a makeover is required and the presence of a toilet upstairs should be considered essential. The owners were really informative about the surrounding area with many suggestions of things to do and visit and where to eat and drink. Perhaps they have tried to maintain the 50's feel and in this I think they have succeeded. The house was in no way damp but there was a musty smell all through the house despite the use of night storage heaters and the log burners. One appreciates that the remote location makes modern facilities such as dish washers and central heating a challenge, however, it would be lovely to have the facilities that matched and complimented the natural surroundings.
We only stayed for 3 nights but enjoyed our time. We easily commuted to Skye each day for wonderful hiking, returning to a cozy home by the water. Anna was wonderful, there was an issue with the internet, we didnât even know was a problem until she reached out with a plan to have it fixed. Before we returned from hiking she had dispatched her local contact to fix the issue. We loved the efforts Anna took to maintain the original feel of the home, while updating where necessary - best shower!!! Thank you for having us.
Description of the view and surrounding area is accurate. However, the house is musty and damp, and cold. The bathroom downstairs is inconvenient with all the bedrooms upstairs, particularly if you have mobility issues. You have to be able to lift your leg about 2 feet in order to get into the bathtub. However, hot showers were great. The faucets in the bathroom and kitchen sinks are not mixed, so you either scald your hands or freeze them. And, the kitchen left much to be desired. Indeed, the fridge, stove and microwave were good, but the kitchen is very old and run down and the kitchen sink is very stained. And, I spent half an hour cleaning the coffee maker filter and filter holder before we could use them with confidence. Much to be done to make this property adequate for airb&b. I will not stay there again, and will not recommend it to friends.
