The toilet clogged easily and they didn’t have a proper plunger. We wished the room had been cleaner/kept up better. But the people were very nice, and the property is beautiful. We did not try the breakfast.

My son (8) and I enjoyed this quiet place very much. Beautiful grounds. Nice breakfast. Not perfect ( internet was sometimes spotty; blinking light in the bathroom; toilet was not always flushing well) but for the price they charge you cannot expect perfection. We valued a very pleasant home-like stay, caring and friendly stuff, quiet nights with birds chirping, and close proximity to restaurants, supermarket and coffee/ chocolate tour. Very clean too. Would stay there again!

Lovely little accommodation just off the main drag of La Fortuna. Quiet, clean, safe. Lovely staff. Parking was right outside the doors to our unit which made unloading/loading our luggage a breeze. Breakfast was very good...perhaps the best I had on our two week trip to Costa Rica. Kids complained that the pool was cold. I would stay again.

This was part of an 8 day family trip to Costa Rica. We had 2 bedrooms- ideal for 2 teens and plenty of space to spread out. Cute place, convenient kitchen, super friendly and helpful staff! We were about 2 miles from the 'main' part of Fortuna, but an easy walk (less than 1/2 mile) from a mini part with several excellent restaurants (we ate at both red frog restaurants and the Caribbean one - plus picked up supplies from the grocery store and used same day laundry the day we left). We literally didn't use any cleaning service, but we had easy access to making some of our own food, visited the pools several times (chilly- but you could really hear the howler monkeys well) and spent some time on our front porch- typically petting the 2 hotel cats. Quiet and safe at night, next to a coffee/ chocolate tour (we didn't tour but started our daily coffee journey here), just down the street from a place who also had breakfast (and fruit out to draw beautiful birds), an amazing night tour and a phenomenal butterfly dome. Location was key without a car - and this place allowed us quiet and privacy along with easy access to other places. Washer was a big help- but dry time in rainy season is a challenge so be aware! Water pressure awesome (don't take that for granted! Very ecologically aware in their practices. Definite odor of mildew - but I don't know how you can avoid it in that climate. We'd stay again in a minute! Tx to all who posted earlier helpful reviews!

Aunty Arenal was a wonderful place to stay!

We loved our stay at Aunty Arenal! Fernando and Laura were very friendly and accommodating. All the employees made us feel welcome. The room was very clean and the hotel was nice and quiet at night. The location was super convenient and easy to find. We wished we could have stayed longer.

Lovely grounds and view but very dated rooms

Overall the stay was ok, but not the best of my trip in Costa Rica, here’s my full rundown: The good: the hotel grounds are beautiful, the swimming pool is set in a nice area, breakfast was nice and right by the pool was lovely, the bed was big and comfy, the staff were helpful and friendly, there is a lovely view of the volcano from the property. The not so good: the rooms are pretty dated and in need of a full refresh, the property is further out of the main town than I realised (my fault for not properly checking), despite being friendly and helpful I reported a flashing light in the bathroom twice but was never fixed (felt like brushing my teeth in a disco!), despite staying for 4 nights my room was never made up once (I really was expecting at least once or twice), there is no safe in the room. On balance I did really like the hotel grounds, but if I were in La Fortuna again I’d look for something a bit less dated and closer to town

We enjoyed this property with a view of the Arenal volcano. It was quite a long bwalk to the centre of La Fortuna but there were also restaurants wothin 15i mnutes. This was essental as no food available at the hotel, apart from breakfast.

The small apartment was not good maintained. Not enough hot waters or towels. The pool is nice, but you cannot sit next to it, just play in the water.
