The Harbour Villa’s are just a 3-minute drive to the north end of the key home to the historic Longbeach Village, known in its earlier days as a transient fishing village. While taking a stroll through this neighborhood your likely to see peacocks on roofs or resting in someone’s yard. It is also a great place for dinner with a view, with options for waterfront restaurants such as the rustic Mar Vista or the more modern Shore. The north end of the key also holds a hidden gem known as Beer Can Island. Erosion has uprooted many of the Australian pines trees here giving it a deserted island feel, a great place worth exploring. 3 minutes in the other direction will put you at Harry’s your local corner store since 1979. Harry’s also has both a deli and an upscale restaurant behind the store, so you have options for whatever you’re in the mood for. Looking to go for a hike? Joan M. Durante Community Park is a 3-minute drive south and has excellent walking trails through the mangroves with portions that overlook the bay. There is a lot of wildlife to see here and a small park out front for children. Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium is also a great place to visit if you are interested in marine life. There are many actives to enjoy on the key as well such and Paddle boarding, Kayaking, and golf. Longboat Key charters offers sightseeing/ecotours, fishing, and sunset tours. The south end of longboat meets At. Armand’s Circle which has a great mix of restaurants, bars, and unique shops. The north end of the island runs into Anna Maria Island which is a hub of entertainment as well.

Not as nice as other HVC units

Our stay was pleasant enough, but we’ve come to have higher expectations at Harbour Villa Club based on past stays in other units. This particular unit (312) is quite dated - the carpeting is old and very worn, there is a very noticeable musty smell prevalent in the entire unit (perhaps from the carpeting), the sliding doors to the lanai hardly work, and there were certain small amenities we expected to be on hand but were not. For example, the unit provides a drip coffee maker but no coffee filters. We were given 2 dishwasher pods for a whole week. Given that there’s still an international pandemic happening (albeit apparently not in Florida....) our family of 4, which includes a young unvaccinated child, ate meals in the unit more often than normal. One doesn’t want to make a Target run for basic household supplies when renting a condo for a week. The cleaning person arrived at 930 am on the checkout date, a full half hour before the 10 am checkout time. That said, the unit has some good things that we really liked. The master bathroom is nicely remodeled. The A/C and wi-fi worked very well. The unit was supplied with 4 nice beach chairs and an umbrella, which made beach outings more enjoyable. And we were able to check in early. Apart from this unit being rather dated and in need of remodeling, I suspect the issues with amenities had to do with the change in property management. HVC previously was managed by Pier Properties Management - a guy named Will Glade who was on site every day and gave wonderful personal service. The new management company (Best Beach Getaways) is your typical impersonal Florida vacation rental outfit - we were not particularly impressed by their service. This facility is a great location for a beach vacation. But I would recommend other units over this particular one - try for 203 or 205.

Longboat Key condo on the bay

The view of the bay from the porch of this property was stunning. It was quiet and peaceful. The pool was wonderful as well. The condo itself had a few major problems. Unfortunately a dishwasher leak damaged the kitchen floor and it was difficult to walk on. The water leak also left black mold on the outside wall next to the dishwasher. Allergy problems during our stay may have been affected by this mold. The handle to the kitchen water faucet kept coming off. The condo could use some updates to make it more comfortable such as newer couch and chair cushions and a working ice maker. The hot water level in the master bath shower was inadequate. The hot water level in the other bathroom was fine however. Someone on staff brought more supplies such as paper towels, trash bags, etc. When we asked for some kleenex boxes to be delivered our request was not fulfilled. This condo would be quite comfortable if the above areas would be addressed.
