Wine Country living at its best! Comfortable elegance awaits.

We enjoy our wine country life and would like to share it with you! Our two-bedroom, two-bath cottage sits in front of our CCOF-certified organic Syrah vines with its own private bocce ball court! Enjoy the setting of our vineyard and farm right out the french doors or from the upstairs deck. A short stroll – or ride on our complimentary cruisers – will take you to the heart of the historic charming town of Los Olivos where you can enjoy over 30 tasting rooms, shops, and restaurants. Our Bernat Winery Retreat is on our private property but in a private location from the main house. Luxurious bedding with down comforters and pillows, bathrobes, and locally crafted bath products made from grapeseeds from our vineyard, are just a few of the amenities you will find at the Winery and Vineyard Retreats at Bernat. For those who decide to make a meal at home during their stay, we welcome them to harvest lettuce and herbs from our 3-acre organic farm, also on the property. If you picture yourself coming home to a comfortable well-appointed wine country cottage after a fun day of touring Santa Barbara wine country, playing a game of bocce ball while watching the sunset over the vineyard and oak-studded hills enjoying a salad you just harvested, then you'll love the Bernat Winery Retreat!

Please note: We have Wednesdays blocked out for regular mid-week cleanings. If you would like to stay longer than a week, we can unblock the Wednesdays to accommodate a longer stay. Send me an inquiry and let me know your preferred dates.

You don't have to purchase a ticket to Italy to experience wine country living at its best!

Los Olivos and Surrounding Area: The 20+ tasting rooms, galleries, and restaurants, of our quaint little town, are a 10-minute walk (20-minute stroll) or a short bike ride away. We also offer complimentary cruisers. Our kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, there is a little market down the street (a 5-minute stroll). But with the world-class dining available in our area you might not want to boil water.
The Santa Ynez Valley comprises the Danish town of Solvang, the western-themed town of Santa Ynez, Ballard, Buellton, and Los Olivos. Aside from tasting the many vintages of the Santa Barbara County wines the valley offers; biking, horseback riding (in fact, if you have a horse and want to bring them, we have room for two), hiking, fishing, live theatre, movie theatre, shopping, festivals, surfing and much more. Santa Barbara is a 40-minute drive and the beach is only 30 minutes.
If you only stay two nights, you'll wish you have stayed more!

The house and property are so peaceful, comfy, and beautiful! We were close enough to Grand to ride the bikes Shawnda provided or walk. Shawnda is an exceptional host! I would recommend this home to anyone visiting Los Olivos.

Wonderful experience from start to finish. We loved the retreat. Everything was clean and beautifully decorated. The wine (from owner’s vineyard) was delicious, as was the apple cake Shawnda baked for us. Definitely take the farm and vineyard tour during your stay. The retreat is also very well located and an easy drive to several small towns and many wonderful vineyards. Shawnda and Sam are delightful and perfect hosts.

Charm and Amazing Hospitality

Perfect Tranquil Getaway

This is the 2nd time we’ve stayed at this property, and it was everything I remembered and more. It’s in the country, right on a vineyard, and it’s so peaceful and relaxing. Sam and Shawnda, the owners, left us some lovely wine and charcuterie to start our visit off right, and downtown Los Olivos is just a short walk away. It was just what I wanted and needed, and I highly recommend.

Absolutely Lovely

This was our second visit to the vineyard retreat and it was just as memorable as the first! We loved being in this beautiful cottage in such an amazing setting. The owners were very responsive and accommodating. Watching the sun set and rise over the colorful vines and the distant mountains was magical. Penelope and Piper visited us and we enjoyed meeting them. We enjoyed the welcome bottle of wine and cheese platter as we sat on the patio overlooking the vineyard. We made use of the coupon and had dinner and wine tasting at the cafe owned by the vineyard owners. Even went home with a butternut squash that was left in the organic garden adjacent to the vineyard! Loved exploring Los Olivos and hope to return one day. Can't imagine one thing to make it better!!!

Amazing Stay - The house, vineyard, and farm could be your whole vacation!

Absolutely an amazing stay at this property. Being able to take a tour of the vineyard and farm was awesome. All the personal touches were so fun, cruiser bikes, chippers/garden bag to pick fresh fruit and vegetables, check-in gift, custom soaps all of which made the trip. In fact the last night we cancelled dinner reservations, biked to local store to get steak, picked fresh vegetables for dinner, and played bocce ball. You will not regret staying here just remember to go into town once or twice or you may forget too!

Simply Perfect Santa Ynez Wine Retreat

This is a beautiful setting and property for a getaway with friends. It is perfect for two couples. We enjoyed sitting on the patio with our morning tea and coffee and watching the birds enjoy the fountain. Very private and quiet. Great location for getting to wineries and Solvang. The communication with the owners/mgmt. was 10 +. Well-appointed amenities. Some added special touches were quite nice (you'll see... ) I highly recommend this rental and would return again when in the area.

Perfect Girls Weekend Getaway!

The Retreat was exactly as pictured/described and was the perfect accommodations for our weekend girls trip. We came up to Los Olivos via LAX, traveling from the east coast. We got in later than expected due to some flight delays, but the check-in process was easy and the hosts even left a few lights on for us when they knew we’d be arriving on the later side. Two bedrooms and two full bathrooms was perfect. Lots of really nice details, like robes, a bottle of wine, a charcuterie board, and a nice welcome message! It was a ~5-7 minute walk to the grocery store and about ~25 minute slow walk into town. Perfect location to walk to the tasting rooms and walk home. Only regret is not booking our trip for longer!

Wonder Stay in Wine Country

What a wonderful rental if you want to be close to everything in Santa Barbara wine country but also feel as though you on a secluded vineyard away from the action. The rental was perfectly described and had all the amenities we expected. You are within walking distance from Los Olivos and a quick drive to anywhere in the valley. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful experience at this beautiful property in Los Olivos. The owners were very responsive and easy to work with. The beds were comfortable, the house had everything we needed, and there were many special touches like a cheese plate, restaurant gift card, crackers and wine at the house upon arrival. The bikes were a fun way to get to town, which is a short ways away. The property is beautiful, and we enjoyed sitting on the front patio looking over the grapes.

Little slice of heaven

My husband and I wanted to show my parent’s Santa Ynez Valley while they were visiting from out of town and Sam and Shawnda’s home was the best setting for the weekend. The property is surrounded by a huge gardens that were beautiful to walk through and a horse farm that made you feel even more connected with nature. Beautiful views from the patio were the perfect back drops to our morning coffee and breakfast and afternoon games of rummy. Check in was so easy and they had fresh snacks and wine ready for our arrival. The house is so charming and the perfect place the call home for the weekend. We will back. Hopefully sooner than later!
