Main issues:
âą Booked King Deluxe Room, given cheaper Traditional Room
âą Strong smell of mould from bathroom
âą Loud squealing plumbing at 11:30 pm, 1:30 am & 4:30 am â no sleep
âą Hotel and Hotels.com blamed each other despite photo evidence
âą Correct room empty â Hotels.com offered to pay difference, hotel refused
âą No greeting on arrival until an employee confirmed we where in the correct place - only person there with any service skillsâ family busy hosting private party
We booked the King Deluxe Room (upstairs with bath) to rest after surgery but were placed in the wrong room and met with dismissive, conflicting responses. I showed photo proof of our booking, yet both parties blamed each other. Even when Hotels.com offered to pay the difference, the hotel refused. The mouldy bathroom and constant plumbing noise with squealing plumbing made it impossible to rest. We left without breakfast and were later refunded by Hotels.com due to The Family Treeâs lack of care and dismissive attitude. We usually go out of our way to support independent businesses, but this was shocking.
Everything was spot on. Room was spacious, clean, comfy. Excellent breakfast. Staff were very helpful and polite. Great carpark too.
Only unfortunate issue we had was a strange and loud bugle like sound coming from the toilet whenever we or the guests in the next room flashed the toilet, it is loud enough to wake someone up !
We used The Family Tree hotel/b&b as a stop over on the way to Bath. The place was superb⊠very clean, good facilities in the room, with a hearty and delicious breakfast. The off street parking in also very convenient. Additionally the staff were helpful, friendly and polite. Thx for a lovely stay
You can see how much effort has gone into this B&B overall. Unfortunately for us it was let down by the heating not working and no one around to assist (the Family Tree downstairs closed at 5pm) No adjustment of the WiFi thermostats on the radiators worked. I believe that the one in the room was broken as there was no reaction (lights etc) at all. The 2 in the bathroom did show adjustment but still no heat in them. There was no heat in any of the pipes so I am convinced that the heating was turned off at source. We spent the evening wrapped in bed clothes. The next morning you could feel heat in the pipes, but still the radiators didn't work. Every time the toilet was flushed (inc the room next door) there was a LOUD howling sound for a min or so! It also didn't impress that there were stains on the quilt which doesn't give confidence that you are getting into a clean bed. That really is a no no.
On the plus side the breakfast was wonderful. I liked the idea of each table having it's own breakfast box for the cereals, fruit and pastries - much better than the usual 'buffet' style. The cooked part of the breakfast was delicious too. I've stayed at many B&Bs in old buildings but none with the particular problems that we had. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend the Family Tree.
The people were generally friendly and helpful. The freshly cooked breakfast was very good.
No room service was provided. The room has no wardrobe and limited storage space. The shower is in a high-sided bath tub so really difficult to access, the myriad of tap controls are ridiculously complicated and the side panel is too small so the bathroom floor gets soaked.
OK just for just one night perhaps (not the three we stayed).
Lovely clean room, not that I used it but a great addition was the fridge with beer and wine for you to purchase if you wanted to. Lovely place with a great breakfast at the on site licenced cafe ( the cakes were fantastic) check in and check out ran smooth and stress free
We stayed as a stop off to visit Chatsworth House. Lovely and friendly B and B, great service and good breakfast. Fire alarm went off due to low battery, but apart from that everything was great. Thanks
This was a very nice place to stay. I enjoyed the closed in patio area and the breakfast was very delicious. The rooms were neat and the area was safe and quiet.
Comfortable Clean & Tidy room, the only thing about the room is that it wasnât serviced every day. ie binâs emptied and fresh water for drinks. But a lovely stay. The Breakfast was 10 out of 10, with a choice of serials, fresh fruit and a choice of pastries followed by a full cooked English Breakfast or a choice of a light Breakfast. There was more to choose on the menu. highly recommend
Wonderful stay, late check out is great, really good wifi, food in the morning is fantastic and varied, staff are all lovely and friendly. Will stay again soon!
Stayed for 2 nights. Very convenient for train station. No food orders after 3.30 pm so went to a local curry restaurant by car. Room was okay. But lacked any surface to put your bags. Comfortable bed but not enough ventilation in the bathroom so it smelt damp. Had the fan on as much as poss. Internet good. Breakfast was okay. But found the staff not very friendly except one gent who was great. Parking convenient.
