The Virginian in Medicine Bow Wyoming is first of far greater than what one would expect for such a small Wyoming town that is basically off the beaten path. That being said, the website is somewhat misleading... First off, the pictures and descriptions are basically that of the old and rustic 3 story building - I was in town to see Union Pacific's Big Boy steam engine which stops right across the highway from the 3 story Virginian... This is where I thought I'd be. What they don't say on there website or when booking is they have other rooms a couple of blocks away from the main facility which is where they put me - this was disappointing... Next, the description states "patio" on my reservation - well, if you very loosely depict a 4 foot wide stretch of sidewalk outside the door as a patio, then I suppose. To me, this is not a patio nor an enjoyable spot to sit. The room, described as deluxe, is quite plain, no frills (does have a fridge, microwave, and bathroom amenities). No coffee, no phone to call office, no string on window blinds to raise, dirty fridge with old sauce drippings, desk has remnants of some kids toys and the rack shelf for the refrigerator and 2nd drawer has a nasty old bag of Cheetos that I'm not even willing to touch...been there awhile. Beyond that, room met the needs for an overnight stay which is the true purpose. As such, given the pros and cons, it was worth the price paid (mid seventies).
