Check in was fine and the unit was mostly as I expected having stayed in the other side of the duplex last year. Could use a bath mat and a kitchen towel for drying dishes. However, having to come in for two evenings to very loud upstairs neighbors of about 20 people who stayed until 3:00 AM was the worst. And the smell of pot coming under my door was nauseating. They were up and down the stairs-even falling down the stairs-I was almost ready to call the police. Wonât be back.
This was a great location in easy walking distance of the great fun and food of the Cooper-Young district. But if you stay in this property, be prepared. Plan to walk to one of the cool local coffee shops or bars if you need reliable WiFi. Pack a few extra items: Tools to repair faulty shelves that spill glassware on you and crash to the floor, hangers if you would like to hang your clothes and sponges to clean the dirty pots. (Clean sponges were provided; broken dishes and dirty pots were replaced. Thank you!)
Most importantly, if Penn Properties contacts you right before checking in and asks you to switch units because the unit you paid for âneeds a repair,â confirm that it has the amenities you paid for before you agree.
Unfortunately, if you, as I trustingly did, rely on past experiences of wonderful hospitality in many other short-term rentals in Memphis ⊠if you expect VRBO listings are honest and accurate ⊠if you want to be a good guest ⊠if you are working long days with cancer patients and donât have time to deal repeatedly with issues at the unit ⊠and if you do not anticipate a bait-and-switch ⊠you will not be offered any compensation and neither Penn Properties nor VRBO has any interest in helping you.
