Share an unforgettable getaway at this custom-built, modern Mendocino vacation rental. Aptly dubbed Whale Song, this remarkable home overlooks the ocean. It even has a private, oceanfront hot tub.



Perched on a lush hillside, this unique Northern California Coast lodge is close to area attractions. Just five miles away is Russian Gulch State Park for a scenic hike to a 36-foot high waterfall. The Devil's Punch Bowl, a large collapsed sea cave with churning water, is nearby too. Bike to Point Cabrillo Lighthouse and Caspar Beach - it’s all close to home.



At the rental, you’ll have everything you need to relax as you wish. Whip up a delightful meal in the fully stocked kitchen then curl up by the fireplace. Or, stay up and watch TV while everyone else goes to bed.



In the master bedrooms, you’ll have a spacious king-size bed. In the second bedroom is a queen-sized bed, and in the third bedroom a twin. Every bedroom has an ocean view and access to a private deck!

Let me start out by saying WOW.This place was so nice! So beautiful& super clean. I'm talking spotless clean. Whomever cleans this place has a masters degree in cleaning ok. I'm talking talented, thank you so very much for your hard work you really shine! The house itself is just beautiful. It's literally the best house in the neighborhood. It sits all the way back by itself overlooking the ocean. You can see the ocean from all the windows! Beautiful! Very peaceful quiet neighborhood. Very attentive host when you message them. I asked for a suggestion on whale watching boat tours and they suggested TelStar. It was only 63 per person for a 2 hour whale watch. Yes we did get to see whales!! The shower upstairs has the best water pressure. The water is steamy hot if you want, their water heater works very good! There are numerous hikes & state parks near the house & beaches too! If your into thrift stores or thrift shopping the town of Fort Bragg has many very low priced plentiful stores & they all support local good causes like hospice &humane society! The hot tub is clean &very nice you can see so many stars here at night too! The can opener is the electric kind, it's located in with appliances. The home is fully stocked with soapbox brand soap in the bathrooms which was super nice. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to cook or bake! The fire place is awesome & heats up the whole house &they provide you with bountiful ample wood in the garage.

The stay at the Whale Song Home was very very nice.The entire Home was just beautiful and very clean , the only issue was the door code lock at times didn't work , I reached out and got help but the issue did continue till the end of stay , the home and view and amenities made up for that however.Loved the home and would stay again.

Grandma’s house on the coast! Absolutely loved this house and the cozy stay. Can definitely accommodate a small and/or young family. Not super baby (15 months) friendly. Things that didn’t make or break or stay but feel necessary to point out; the kitchen is fully stocked with all things to eat, drink, cook! However, we needed a can opener and the one there was a hunk of junk, also needed tin foil and something to store leftovers in (cling wrap or zip locks) and didn’t have those. A couple coffee cups still had coffee on them and a frying pan was very dirty. The couch is pretty broken in but comfy, the recliner has seen better days and could definitely be replaced. Otherwise! The views are gorgeous, hot tub is plus. The place is comfy and cozy and we would probably stay again.

House is a bit more run down compared to its condition during our previous booking two years ago. Hot tub water was cloudy and smelled like it had not been treated in a while. The driveway is terribly steep and the parking situation inconvenient- 6 guests allowed but only 2 cars and not OK to park in cul de sac above the driveway. We loved this place but will book elsewhere in the area next time, as we feel they’re charging a bit too much for a place that’s getting increasingly shabby and where the hot tub is not sparkling clean.

We all had a wonderful time. The house made everyone happy. We all felt @ home. It is such a beautiful home! Was so amazing to wake up to ocean view from each room! What a beautiful difference from the farm! We loved the privacy, & the closeness to Fort Bragg & Mendocino. All the stained glass was beautiful & so special. It was a good place to stay for the two nights we were there but we had two ford f150s and the drive way was way too little, has a steep downward grade and they wanted us to have one truck parked at the Russian park down the way vs. Just having it be a bit in the small culdsac above. The hottub was dirty idk when the last time water was cleaned out, we did see whales last day, the deck needs to be replaced a few bords are rotten, and needs to be re painted especially if they are gonna have a wood deck by the ocean. There is a lot of crap in the cupboards so no room for your own groceries to put away, some lights didnt turn on. BBQ barley work, and the propane to the mainhouse was turned off we had to light the pilots.

Peaceful stay

The Whalesong neighborhood is quiet, with noise blunted by tall trees. The sound of the waves heard from the house and deck is very soothing. Sitting in the hot tub, you can see the ocean. It is very clean. There are 5 state parks within 10 miles.

Whale Song

The neighborhood, house and property are gorgeous! Not to mention the view of the ocean from the hot tub!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! It was very relaxing and peaceful listening to the waves crashing on the coastline. Sunset views are also incredible.Extremely romantic location for a getaway with your significant other!We are already thinking of a return trip.The garage is accessible, however you cannot park a car in there, which I would like to have done.I would definitely recommend!

Ocean Thanksgiving

This property had some plusses and minuses. Location lovely, beautiful ocean views. Close to Mendocino. The jacuzzi was well placed and had wonderful stargazing opportunities, but could have been cleaner. The steep driveway is a major issue as you are not supposed to park above on the road. The home really needs updating and window refurbishing. The biggest issues were the very uncomfortable bed upstairs causing poor sleep. Also the living room is very small. Good for 4 people but that’s about it. We lucked out with good weather so could be outside. However the deck needs refinishing & more than .2 plastic deck chairs.

Pros: The view was awesome. Very quiet neighborhood. Roomy. Enjoyed our stay. Cons: maybe get a Polyethylene cutting board for meat, sheet pan, a sliding screen for the room upstairs and downstairs. Fix the other sliding screen upstairs, not have so much soap or chemicals in hot tub. It looked like Dawn dish soap with all the bubbles , fix two of the jets. Take the mold off the shower curtain downstairs, a glass plate for inside the microwave, fix the living room 2 windows so you can see out of them. We killed 2 termites. 😵‍💫. And that over 400. Fee….for I don’t know what.

A bit of a disappointment.

The place looks larger in the pictures. We were disappointed in the size of the TV/common space where there is only space for four people, not six and the furniture was old. Luckily we spent time with family at another facility with more space. This was the biggest complaint. The dining table had only five chairs, one of which had a wobbly arm. The spa foamed up. The layout of the kitchen was good and it was well equipped. The second floor was very nice. The view was nice. Did not understand why parking in the cul-de-sac was prohibited.

We have stayed at this property several times over the last 8 years and it is still a wonderful place to pull the plug and enjoy the peace and quiet as well as the view. I will say that the house doesn't have the same family warmth and love that it did years ago. 10 years of online renting and use is taking a toll and it shows. all the lights are now LED which are way way too bright at the standard 6500K light temp/color which is very very sad for the coast and a 'warm' property. look into LED lights that are rated at 2700-3000K otherwise it just looks like warehouse lighting inside. pictures are missing off the walls and other aspects of rental 'entropy' are becoming very evident. there is also trash that previous renters have let fall over the decking and are visible in the brush below....also sad. I'd still come back, but thought I would offer some constructive criticism and input for a place that I do love.

Great location, notable kitchen issues

The location, views, hot tub, and decor were incredible! There were too many scraped up teflon pans in the kitchen (likely because management provided a metal spatula), but luckily we found 2 that still worked. Can opener barely worked, and there were 20+ ants per day despite us keeping everything in the fridge and keeping the counters clean. The beds were also very firm. Biggest 3 changes I would encourage management to make are 1)vinegar cleaning spray available to guests to minimize ants 2)go through cookware and remove unusable/incompatible items 3) buy a mattress topper for at least one of the beds. Would recommend to anyone with scoliosis or who doesn't want to cook in the meantime. 1 more tip unrelated to the place! Make sure you drive a bit (10 mins) for gas, otherwise you'll pay way too much

Only negative to report is the house smelled a bit musty. The house is beautiful, and the proximity to Russian gulch State Park, and other view points/parks is great. 10 min north of Mendocino, 10mins south of fort bragg. Highly recommend!

Sweet house, beautiful spot!

We had a wonderful stay. The house is comfortable and well- equipped. The interior was spotless when we arrived. We were invited to check in early which was a nice bonus. Check in and check out were super easy. Another plus for us was the outdoor outlet where we could plug in our car (not a charger unit - just a plug - we travel with a charger). The management company didn't seem to know that it was there, so it was another nice surprise when we arrived. Eating out on the deck overlooking the ocean was wonderful. Great stay overall - we hope to return!
