Mindo is beautiful but not easy to get to; it is at least a 2-hour drive from Quito. An Uber ride from Quito will cost at least $50 and once you are in Mindo, there is no Uber service out there so you must rely on local taxis. The lodge owners are friendly and well connected locally should you need assistance with anything (food, tours, taxis, etc). The lodge is beautiful, clean and well-maintained. The owners have a sister business called Sabina Tours which I found to be very pricey. I chose to take advantage of the (free) onsite hiking trails and bird watching from the 3rd floor observation deck. Dinner is family style and an added charge. If you want to bring your own wine to dinner, you will be charged a $12 corkage fee. They are very strict with their policies so don't expect them to meet you halfway on anything. For example, I needed to leave the lodge at 12:30am by taxi to catch a 6:00am international flight out of Quito. I asked if my 3rd night could be pro-rated since I was not staying a full night and would not be enjoying the included breakfast the next morning. I was given the option of paying another $70 to stay until 8:00pm (their "day-use" rate) or I could pay the whole night and stay until the taxi picked me up at 12:30am. I chose the latter so that I wouldn't be sleeping solo in the Quito airport but disappointed that they would not pro-rate my stay.
