Welcome to Surfside Cottage at Smith Mountain Lake! This adorable dog friendly lakefront home offers beautiful water views, spacious outdoor areas, a private dock, a new hot tub, a fire pit and more! With updates throughout, space for 6 guests and a central location, Surfside Cottage is the ideal vacation home to experience all that the lake has to offer.


Surfside Cottage is located in Moneta, which is on the Bedford County side of Smith Mountain Lake and close to everything! This prime location offers easy access to major roads, grocery stores, boat rentals, restaurants and activities, which are all within a short drive or boat ride. The house is on a quiet cove with low traffic and it's a quick 5 minute boat ride to the main channel. This lakeside location cannot be beat!

One level living with 3 bedrooms (1 king and 2 queens) and 2 full bathrooms
King bedroom features an en-suite bathroom with a shower
Queen bedrooms share the hall bathroom with a tub/shower combo

Private boat dock with a gently sloping walkway and stairs down to the lake from the house. The cove is plenty wide with easy access for any size boat and stays around 4 feet deep.
Large covered porch overlooking the lake with a cozy seating area (perfect for morning coffee) and a dining table for 6 to enjoy meals outside
New 6-person hot tub to enjoy with views of the lake
Stone fire pit
Yard with Adirondack chairs and plenty of space for your kids and dogs to play
2 kayaks and a canoe with a variety of life vests for use during your stay
Outdoor grill

Up to 2 dogs with NO extra pet fee. We provide food bowls, gates for the porch, a few toys and plenty of yard space to explore
ALL bath and bed linens:
Bath linens for 6 guests (1 bath towel, 1 hand towel and 1 wash cloth per guest)
All sheets & bedding is also provided along with extra pillows and blankets
Kitchen towels
Coffee (ground and k-pods), tea and filters
A variety of spices and cooking essentials like aluminum foil, plastic wrap, etc.
Cleaning supplies & essentials like dish soap, a sponge, dishwasher liquid, laundry detergent, hand soap, countertop spray and trash bags.
A starter supply of paper towels and toilet paper is also provided

The cottage is in a quiet, family-friendly neighborhood with about 15 homes, surrounded by farmland and gorgeous lake views. It's the perfect place to relax, let the kids (and dogs) play and enjoy nature. You'll even have a view of Smith Mountain on your way to the house!
We know you'll love your stay at Surfside Cottage and we can't wait to welcome you to our lakeside getaway!
*Please note: we are currently renovating the basement level to make more space for guests, so it will not be accessible during your stay. But, rest assured there will not be any construction during your time at the cottage. There are three exterior security cameras at the property, which are located at the front porch and basement door.*

John was a great host, kept us informed and answered our question promptly. The hose was perfect! We really enjoyed our stay. One word of caution, when driving at night be careful, there are deer everywhere!! Coming up the road to the house every night we would see 10-20 deer. They even come in the yard. We loved it! Would definitely recommend this stay.

Had a great stay. Everything was as advertised and was perfect for our 2 dogs. A quiet neighborhood with dock/lake access. We used the kayaks and the outdoor deck the most. Amy was very responsive and had no problems.

We absolutely loved our stay at this cozy Smith Mountain Lake home! Being able to see the water from both sides of the house made the setting feel peaceful. The beds were very comfortable, and while the place was small, it was incredibly cozy. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed, and the home was close to grocery stores and state parks. The decor was cute and thoughtfully done. The only small negative was that the shower pressure in the main bathroom could be better, but it didn’t affect our stay. The hot tub and fire pit are a perfect addition to the home and we would have loved to use them if the weather had been a bit warmer. This was the perfect location to ring in the New Year.

Great location

Property was exactly as pictured. Loved the open floor plan. Great location and being able to get to places on or off the water. Amy was always readily available if anything arose. My favorite area was the front porch which was covered and I loved sitting out there and listening or watching it rain. Also could get to the dock rather easily with the house being close to the water. Would definitely stay here again!

In July 2025 we had a wonderful stay Surfside Cottage. The owner was very easy to work with and always quick to respond. We made full use of the entire property including the hot tub, fire pit and mostly the lake. We had rented a pontoon boat for four days and the the dock was perfect for docking the boat at night. We will definitely be returning to Smith Mt Lake and would definitely return to this property. My only comment is, the dock could use a little TLC (needs painting). Overall we had an amazing time.

The house was great. The beds and couches were very comfortable. Loved the access to the lake. Nice touch with a kayak and canoe which was fun. My pug was happy. Kitchen was open and provided all the things we needed to cook and provide storage. The only thing that was lacking was the hot tub never really got hot. Even on the last night, it only got to 98 degrees. I appreciate the attentiveness and helpfulness of the host in trying to get it right. He always responded whenever I asked a question within minutes. I would recommend this property if you want to just relax or do the multiple activities that the lake provides. Close to great restaurants and two wineries makes it a perfect getaway. Very happy with the experience.

Exactly what I needed

My family and I spent the week at Surfside and couldn’t have been happier with our stay. The owner (John) was very communicative and easily accessible. The accommodations were perfect for the goal of our vacation, to relax. The house is located at the end of a cove and had no traffic other than the next door neighbor, which we only saw in the weekend. The deck was my favorite part. Waking up to enjoy a cup of coffee while sitting on the outdoor furniture was perfection. Lastly, I truly appreciated the attention to detail through the property. Small things such as bags, Tupperware, and seasonings were all provided. That is such a blessing as I inevitably forget something basic on trips. I will definitely be staying again!
