good LES location; hotel needs an upgrade

Good lower east side location, great views (12th floor). Carpets in major need of cleaning. Trim in room around doors and windows and closets chipping and falling apart. Furniture rickety. Room in major need of makeover. Issues with elevator.

The hotel was perfectly fine overall. The lobby and bar area are clearly newly renovated and look great—though the bar was unfortunately closed when we arrived. Our room was very spacious, with large, comfortable beds and a fantastic shower, though the décor felt a bit dated and bland. There was only one bathrobe provided despite there being two of us, but when we requested hot water, a kettle and cups were promptly delivered, which was appreciated. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It’s evident that parts of the hotel have been updated while others haven’t, so the quality feels a bit inconsistent. We didn’t try the breakfast—$29 for a continental buffet seemed steep, and there only appeared to be black coffee available (no lattes or cappuccinos), though complimentary coffee is offered in the lobby each morning, which is a nice touch. The location is excellent—just a couple of minutes’ walk to the subway with plenty of great cafés and restaurants nearby. We especially recommend Caffe Vita around the corner. Overall, a convenient and comfortable base for a couple of nights, even if it lacks a bit of atmosphere or character.

The room and public areas were clean and inviting. The staff were friendly, pleasant, and professional. The hotel is convenient to transportation and was also walkable. We always stay at the Rivington when we visit family in Manhattan.

Lovely staff, some rooms are rundown

I've been staying here for 3 years now whenever I'm in town for short stays. I really love the welcoming vibe; the front desk staff is always so kind and helpful. My only ding is that some of the rooms (lower floors?) are kind of run down and I've been hearing about their "renovation in progress" for all 3 years I've been coming here. The decor is kind of "1995 bachelor pad" but the beds and linens are top-notch and there's wine in the lobby from 5 to 7 pm. Overall, a lovely respite in a kind of janky, chaotic part of town.

Lower East locations

Staff team is very friendly and welcoming. Bright red carpet in the hallways could be replaced. Room was neat and tidy. The lobby and bar are nice. Glad I had a higher floor, a friend on 3rd floor struggled with the noise.
