The room 9 was clean and the staff very nice. Bed and pillows were OK. It is an old property so bathrooms and carpet were tired as was paintwork. Wall had a hole near the balcony door. Had noisy neighbours on the balcony at 11pm. It did the job and was cost effective but probs will chose elsewhere next time.

Bed was comfy. However, there was No reservation desk, so checking in was confusing. , check in was in the noisy bar. Food over cooked and hardly edible, had to be ordered from the bar.l, no wait staff. Room was noisy and in poor condition, paint peeling , mold on bathroom ceiling and wood trim, shower never got hot, broken tiles, toilet paper holder broken. Don't recommend. Sad thing is, with a little TLC it could be a glorious historical site.

A gem worth finding

An old world experience in an older hotel. Staff were great and Ally, at check in, couldn't be more helpful. Comfortable room with a full size bath and all the usual amenities. A lot of stairs (no lift) made my injured knee pay but it was worth it. The Underground jazz night with a great meal and reasonably priced drinks gave me a memorable experience.

As beautifully renovated pub, the rooms are spacious, clean and quiet. The location is fantastic for walkability to the beach, the city, local walking paths,and public transport. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful for anything you ,might need. The underground cocktail bar is a particular treat, and for the price, this is a really great stay for a weekend away from Sydney to see the sights of Newy!

Love Newcastle

Hotel is an old pub with lots of character. Just have to accept squeaky floors. Parking in the area is a problem and expensive.

Very clean, amazing staff and a great feed at the restaurant. There's also the bonus of no pokies. The underground is awesome for a night cap. Definitely will stay there again !

Darren was a wonderful help during our stay. Sorted a table for dinner in the Basement night club and really looked after us. Stayed for a bit of the performance by Fish Fry and had a nice night. Lovely old hotel and only wish the wall could talk.
