***Beach Notes*** The entire island is only 22 miles wide from east to west, so you are never too far from anywhere on Grand Cayman. All beaches in Grand Cayman are public since the Crown owns up to the high water mark. The beach or water entry behind your property may vary slightly from the images on our website due to shifting tides and weather patterns. The beach next door is also always available for your use.
The homes in Northside offer great reef-protected snorkeling. The beaches in Northside can have plenty of white sand, but can also be pebbly with natural rock formations. Either way, with the abundant marine life we have in the water, you will want to wear foot protectionâpool shoes or finsâwhen wading into the ocean.
From North Side, it's an easy 10-minute drive to the Rum Point Club, as well as a 10-15 minute drive to Tukka restaurant in the East End. You'll also find 2 resorts in the East EndâMorritts and The Reefâwith restaurants and a dock bar.
***Ocean Debris & Sargassum*** Beaches in Grand Cayman may also experience floating ocean debris and sargassum seaweed seasonally. Sargassum is a harmless seaweed that has increased in frequency over the summer months. Our owners do make efforts to remove heavy sargassum and will have the beach raked before your arrival.
If sargassum weed becomes extremely heavy behind your property, we will reach out to the owner for alternative solutions, which may include a partial refund or relocation. We try our best to work around Mother Nature.
It was great to have a few paper products already there, plus extra pillows, beach towels, light switches were labeled and phone numbers for anything we needed. The home is very comfortable and nicely decorated with plenty of space, rooms and bathrooms for everyone.
We just loved this house. We visited for Spring break 2016 we had a total of 8 people, 4 adults and 4 children ages 11-15. The place was perfect. Plenty of space for everyone, so nice quiet and secluded. The kids just loved the pier and the reef just off the beach to explore by snorkeling over it. It was such a relaxing vacation we did not want to return. You will need to rent a car to stay here, but the area was great, near Rum Point, the Crystal Caves, we used Tortuga Divers in Morritts only a 10 minute drive away. Georgetown was about 45 minutes away, but one day in there was more than enough. Just packed with cruise ship visitors. The house was very well equipped, the beds were comfortable we had everything we needed right there. You could easily cook all your meals here if you wanted. We had breakfast and lunch in and sampled the local restaurants for dinner. Just a great trip all around, I highly recommend this house, it is even better in person than you can see in the pictures.
Pictures are very accurate and the home has plenty of amenities, as if you were staying at a friends house. Games, books, extra chairs and everything in the kitchen. The property owners, along with Silver Thatch AND the cleaning lady Chloe, were very personable and helpful! Be aware the north side of the island has plenty of wind so snorkeling off our beach front was not possible. That was strictly due to weather though. With calm/warm weather snorkeling would be possible. Also, FYI, there is a enormous amount of seaweed on the beach, limiting space to lounge or lay out in the sand. The seaweed is piled up along the entire stretch of coast 2 feet high and litter is abundant! Again, nothing against the property, more a public service announcement for the northern part of the island.
The view was phenomenal but couldnât really get into the water due to grasses and rocks so a pool was very much missed. The inside is large and the kitchen was very well equipped but the microwave didnât work (so they have another one on the counter?) and the fan by the stove didnât work (which leads to a lot of smoke and odors) and a security detector inside kept beeping. We called the management company who came out to fix the detector 5 days into our visit. The Mgmt company fee, by the way, is ridiculous. Itâs supposed to give you discounts and high quality bath products. We got 3 small soaps. The pier and shack at the end were delightful and the location is our favorite
Our stay was 12/28/16 - 1/4/17. Our party of 8, 2 families of 4, had a wonderful time at this home. Description of property is very accurate. Very private location. You have to have a car to stay here. The house was very clean, and was perfect for us. We loved snorkeling from their pier, and even if the water seemed a bit rough (not every day), the current conditions were not bad for swimming. Very pretty coral! The beach is not your clean white sand at a resort, but was very enjoyable. The only issue I had with the house (reason for 4 stars) is that I slept in the master suite and at night I love the windows open to listen to the ocean and you cannot open the sliders at all, they are completely caulked on the outside and the room has no windows so we had to have A/C on. I think overall weather is hit or miss, 5 of our 7 days were windy and 2 were not. The 2 that weren't were buggy and the other 5 weren't. But you are in a tropical location so bugs are to be expected. We enjoyed the deck everyday and wonderful stargazing at night. I have to say, overall the house was very nice and I would definitely recommend staying there.
The house was everything the website promised . Perfect !
Be careful when putting gasoline in your rental car- we ended up with diesel in our tank on our way to turn the car in at the airport and that is an expensive way to finish your vacation!!
This house was beautiful. We were unfortunate in our timing, as it was very windy at the house our entire stay. We were unable to use the beach or sit outside during our visit. The beaches were covered in seaweed so thick, we couldn't walk the beach either. Our second night there, the power went out for 5 hours and we weren't able to sleep in the stifling heat. The next day, it was off and on, as well. And every night, I'd wake up around 12:30 am because the a/c in the master was reset to 80 degrees and I'd have to adjust it.
It felt a little stingy that only a partial roll of paper towel was provided and we weren't aware that no cleaning supplies would be there unless discussed prior to our stay. Also, we had two flat tires with our rental vehicles due to the numerous nails and screws found in the parking area. We picked up a few handfuls of them and threw them away to help future visitors. One of the dining chairs is unraveling and my father sliced his finger on an exposed rusty nail. I'm usually not one to complain, as I love VRBO and have used it many times, but this was my least favorite stay through the site.
Fortunately, the weather was amazing on the other side of the island, so we drove over there daily to enjoy the beaches and attractions.
I still gave the home 3 stars instead of less and I'm sure most of our trip would have been different if not for the weather. Also, the views from the home were amazing. We only wish we could have gone outside to enjoy it more!
We took a family vacation and stayed here for a week. WOW and WOW! Location location location. This house was perfect in every way. The size and layout was great. The waterfront location is stunning. Beautiful views. We loved that it is on the north side of the island it makes it very private but had lots to do in the area without all the tourist. The house is very comfortable and has everything you could need. We had 7 adults and 3 small children and had plenty of space. The water was great and the location made snorkeling very easy and lots of sea life to enjoy. it was far from the big towns but we really enjoyed taking the drive into town it's an easy commute. One feature we really enjoyed was going to Starfish Pointe the beaches there are spectacular. As well as going to Rum Pointe, very fun place. Great house and manager was very accommodating. Our family made great memories and we will be back to Castaway Cove! Loved the house and island!
