Love the house the set up. Only thing the property across the street is gated which you can't tell on line. You have to walk 5 to 6 maybe more houses down to get to the beach.
Older home without fancy furnishings whixh is fine by us, we spend our time out of the house. It was very clean, stocked with some basics to get going (tp, paper towels, trash bag) and all linens were correct. Easy access to beach, across the street. Layput was great for my siblings, parents & I. Front porch was great for early mornings & evenings. AC worked well, outdoor shower for rinsing off. Advertized for 5 bathrooms. There's 3 in the house - 2 with tub/shower combo & 1 with shower only. We booked again for next year! 7 adults, 2 kids & we didn't feel cramped or crowded.
This is a nice home with ample room for the 8 adults and 3 children in our group. It looks like there is normally easy access to the beach, but that was not the case for us as it was closed off , we were told due to dredging (which is beyond the control of the owner)The ability to close off the sleeping areas in the evening so that sleeping children wouldn't be disturbed was a huge plus for us. Wonderfully huge deck for sitting or playing games. The one disappointing aspect was the fact that it could have been cleaner. I don't think the company that does the cleaning puts in a lot of effort. There was a lot of dog fur and debris in corners and under the furniture which I found out when I retrieved a lost baby toy from under the couch. While the house was no means dirty, I think a little more effort (i.e moving furniture to mop and vacuum) would go a long way. Carpets seemed stained and needing to be replaced as well. All in all, it was a very enjoyable stay but the owner(s) should look at their cleaning company a little closer.
I have no complaints about the house itself, really enjoyed our stay there and the kitchen is well stocked. The beds are also very comfortable and the house is in such a great spot at the end of the island.
This house, however, was advertised as having its own private walkway to the beach. We had 3 households drive 5 hours for this beach trip, children included, and when we arrived we realized that the beach access had been shut down. The beach eroded in that area and there is now a 12 foot drop off where the access used to be. This was most definitely not an overnight incident, so we should have been notified in advance that the beach access no longer existed. A close beach access is a top 3 reason for our choice in a beach house. Not having one would have made a difference in our choice. Once there and unpacked though, there's nothing to be done.
Because the house beach access was closed, we had to get up early each morning and drive our car with all of our beach gear down to the end of the island access before the lot was full and walk back to the house until we were ready to head to the beach. It was less than ideal to say the least. I also realize that having to do this sort of thing is not uncommon in a beach stay, however, the house was falsely advertised as having the benefit of its own access. That wording has since been removed, but still existed the entire duration of our stay.
I called to complain the first day and my husband called 2 more times after to ask for a refund for a portion of our stay. He was told that the broker in charge would have to handle the situation, but that person never returned his calls. I do not blame the homeowner in this situation, because it is most certainly the fault of the property management company who handles this rental.
My wife, infant daughter, and I stayed here for a week in June and had a great experience. The inside was clean and spacious and the location is excellent. Even though it's second row, the path going across the street to the beach makes for an extremely short walk to the sand. We loved spending the mornings drinking coffee on the deck and listening to the waves. I also used the charcoal grill a few times successfully, even though it's in pretty rough shape it's still functional. My only serious critique of this great house is that the deck really needs a paint job. It would go a really long way for the appearance of the house and it's curb appeal if it could get some fresh white paint on the deck.
