Peel Cottage - A Romantic Country Retreat

Welcome to Peel Cottage, your peaceful country getaway.

Whether you’re escaping for a romantic weekend, a quiet few days together, or simply some time to unwind, this cosy 1950s cottage offers comfort, privacy, and the kind of calm you can only find in the countryside.

Cute, private, and full of charm, Peel Cottage sits among mature oaks, native shrubs, and a stunning rhododendron collection. The large section provides plenty of space to relax and enjoy the peaceful setting, and you might even spot the resident kererū gliding through the trees.

Inside, you’ll find two spacious bedrooms, tastefully decorated to match the relaxed country feel. The main bedroom features a queen bed set in a warm mid-century theme, while the second bedroom has two singles that can be joined to form a king bed if needed. Both rooms have heaters, cosy bedding, and restful décor.

The kitchen is fully equipped with gas hobs, oven, full-sized fridge, dishwasher, toaster, and Nespresso machine. Guests are welcome to use our pantry staples, including tea, coffee, and condiments. A washing machine is discreetly tucked away for longer stays.

Enjoy your meals at the indoor dining table or take things outside to the spacious deck. There’s a large gas BBQ, outdoor furniture, and a sun umbrella for easy alfresco dining on warm days or mellow evenings.

The comfortable lounge is the perfect place to unwind in front of the woodburner. A small library and games cupboard offer simple pleasures after a day exploring the great outdoors. While there’s good mobile coverage, the cottage intentionally has no Wi-Fi - a welcome excuse to slow down and connect.

The compact bathroom is original but functional, with a great shower offering instant hot water and strong pressure. Towels, fresh soap, shampoo and conditioner are provided.

The cottage is well insulated, including underfloor, and the woodburner keeps things warm and toasty through the cooler months.

The Surrounding Area

Peel Forest is a small rural hamlet near the Rangitata River, surrounded by farmland and native bush. The nearby Peel Forest Park offers beautiful walks, waterfalls, and the climb to Little Mount Peel for those who like a challenge. The area also offers mountain biking, horse trekking, and whitewater rafting.

Only 15 minutes away, nearby Geraldine has everything you need - great cafés, a supermarket, local pubs, boutique shops, the iconic Barker’s store and café, and the excellent Humdinger gin distillery.

Ninety minutes from Christchurch airport, Peel cottage makes an ideal stopover on the drive south to Mount Cook or Queenstown, or simply a perfect standalone destination for a peaceful break.

The cottage is lovely, cosy, clean and fully equiped kitchen. Very comfortable bed. The location and surrounding gardens are great, very peaceful and quiet. We loved having the fire place which we did use, very efficient and so cosy. The owners were great to deal with, excellent communication with entry details. We would stay again and recommend it to anyone wanting to explore the area.
