Fair for the price

Posted Oct. 16, 2016 on Expedia
We checked in very late, and I was impressed that there was still a desk attendant there! They made sure that we knew the best place to park, the wifi password, and where are room was. There was a faint smell in our room that I suspect was from our last guests, and the main sink drained veeeeeeery slowly (almost not at all), but everything else was very comfortable. The complimentary coffee was especially welcome (it had been a long night for me), as was the fridge and microwave. There were enough TV channels to keep the kids entertained, and the mini-fridge kept our take-out refrigerated. I was surprised that there was no desk, but I can't really remember the last time I used one in a hotel room. We had a room that overlooked the marina, although at night you could hear the music from the attached pub sometimes. We didn't take advantage of the sushi restaurant or fitness center, but it was nice knowing they were nearby. Overall, this was the cheapest place enroute to our destination, but it was clean and comfortable enough that I'm not disappointed.

Older, clean, budget hotel

Posted Oct. 11, 2016 on Expedia
Pros: Budget friendly, walking distance to amenities and ferries.
Location: The Dalewood is within a few blocks of the water (ferry terminals), coffee shops, pubs, grocery store, etc. all withing walking distance.
The Dalewood Inn is an older hotel and shows its age. The rooms are dated and dingy, but clean and acceptable for a short stay on a budget. The owner is very friendly and willing to please. The rooms include basic cable TV service as well as WIFI access. The WIFI was acceptable but owner stated this may not be the case in all rooms. The hotel is kept quite cold with single baseboard heaters in the room which take a while to warm it up. The outside temperature was not incredibly low in early October but we found it unpleasant to return to such a cold room. Even leaving the the room temperature turned up during the day was no help as we found it turned off again when the room was cleaned.

Quiet location but really needs some upgrade investment.

Acceptable budget accommodation

Posted Aug. 30, 2016 on Hotels
Basic clean motel over an all-night liquor store. No screens on the windows, no A/C so our room was overheated on one of the rare warm days so far north. Smoke detector was missing. No breakfast offered. But it was clean, with a comfortable bed and consistent hot water. Not bad for a budget motel, but look elsewhere for elegance.

The owner did accomodate our pets which other motels would not do. Don't expect the Ritz, decor is pretty bad MCM but tv worked

Conveniently near harbour and visitors' centre

Posted Aug. 22, 2016 on Expedia
Location: Near Visitors' Centre, harbour. Also supermarket and restaurants.
We came to Port McNeill to be close to Telegraph Cove and enroute to Port Hardy. The hotel was adequate, clean and good location, with liquor store and large car park. Our room had a nice view of the harbour. Condition of the hotel was bit dated but suited our needs.

OK Hotel

Posted Aug. 8, 2016 on Expedia
OK for short stay. Looked clean. Staff was friendly. It is a very basic hotel. It was strange not to have a lamp next to the bed or the clock. TV is still CRT. I wish I had my ear plugs with me as some piece of hardware coming on every 15 min or so was making it difficult for me to sleep. But that type of noise is not uncommon for even much more expensive hotels unfortunately.

Stay was comfortable but wifi was terrible. Overall a bit overpriced for what it was.

Hardest bed in the world!

Posted Aug. 2, 2016 on Expedia
Overall no issues, it was fine, quiet, cool seabreeze in the windows even with the super hot weather. But the bed! I like a firm bed, but this was like sleeping on the ground. It was positively horrible. For that one reason, I would not stay here again. However, if the got new beds, I would definitely stay again.
