Smoking is allowed in designated areas at this Queenstown inn.
We thoroughly enjoyed out stay at the Empire. The bar girl and our waitress in the dining room were so helpful and friendly. Our room was very comfy although one side of the electric blanket didnât work. The creaky floor added character to the building. The entrance with its beautiful staircase and furniture was so beautiful . Thoroughly enjoyed our meal in the dining room and our breakfast the next morning. Would recommend this hotel to our friends.đ.
Worn-down plush elegance. If you like a bit of grit, this place is for you: 3m ceilings, but only a pull-cord heat lamp & electric mattress warmers to stave off the chill. 2-hour kerb parking with reassurances that it âshould be fineâ is the Free Parking advertised! Room doors require two free hands to open so donât juggle too many bags. No table, dresser, shelf or rail, so hang your clothes on two hooks on the door. Once there was a TV because cables hang from a mount on the wall. The âloungeâ has an awkward TV with local channels, next to the panini press (no slice toaster) and microwave. This is where the fridge is, down a very long creaky hallway and across the regal upstairs lobby. While there, may as well check out the gorgeous second-floor wrap-around veranda beneath the buildingâs iconic arches, overlooking the town (in which this hotel is the most impressive). If you are in one of the farthest rooms like I was, the closest washroom is a tiny one down a hallway leading to the fire escape. The nice & big washrooms across from rooms 12/13/14 are bright and clean. WiFi was okay, better on laptop than phone, which disconnected a lot. Modern outlets and light switch by bed is convenient.
Great for the price and stars. Rooms were simple but very clean with an updated bathroom. Location is perfect and check in was easy. Breakfast is basic - toast, cereal, coffee and juice but free so excellent. It felt very local and authentic. Great character.
I loved the heritage value of the hotel, we had an ensuite which had refrigerator, very comfortable bed and a spacious and modern bathroom. The breakfast was sufficient and I definitely recommend this property.
Hotel needs major renovations. There was no bathroom only to share down the hall. Walls in the rooms need paint or at least nice clean. Wouldn't trust the linen. We have not stay this 2 nights but went to Strahan and paid again for 2 nights. Staff in hotel not helping but advising to get the problem fixed by lastminute. This accommodation is not suitable for travellers, needs to be clasified as hostel, in my opinion. Queenstown itself is not ready for visitors, no attractions all together. It was our first time there and for sure the last one.
Beautiful old building. Room served its purpose for an over night stay with a shared bathroom..The hotel was centrally located in the town.
We ate a lovely meal in in the restaurant in the evening and it was reasonably priced.
Staff were very attentive.
We had a continental breakfast in with the price.
It was a heritage property beautiful wood throughout
The staircase is exceptional parting at the top intp two directions
Huge dining room
Wonderful location in this unique town
The bedroom we giot was small but the bathroom was new and all in all comfortable
The room was nice and compact. Beautiful historic hotel. The only fault was their laundry facilities. I wasted over $10 as the dryer would only go on for 5 minutes at a time.
Stayed for two nights that we had to book separately due to unavailability of the first room in the second night. Rooms were both okay, clean and comfortable, though quite warm and hard to get cool.
What really destroyed our good experience was the service. We asked if the room in the second night had a fridge, which was answered with no and there would be just one room left that would cost 40 dollars more. As we had quite a lot of food to cool, we paid the extra. On the way to the room we found a shared lounge - with a shared fridge that was completely empty, so we could have just used this one. Staff failed to tell us this, although we specifically said we just need an upgrade for the fridge. Seems like the man in charge just wanted to get his Expedia charges back, because the invoice we got did not match at all to what we paid in total. Plus, on the next morning we saw that the room we had in the first night was unused (had a window on the inside, beds made and towels neatly folded on both beds). They lied to us and withheld information, just to get the most money. If we ever return to the area, we would not stay again even if the rooms were good.
Genuine friendly service in a traditional hotel. Great bike storage, fresh bathrooms and a welcome breakfast. Thanks for making our Queenstown holiday special.
Clean, but basic amenities in room, like no aircon or TV.
2 of 4 shared bathroom closed as "out of order"
Woke up during the night by drunken shouting outside the the hotel..
