Everything about our stay at CASA Vista Azul was amazing. From the daily wildlife experiences right from the home, to the swimming pool, to elevator access for our older family members. Access to local activities were easy thanks to Ricky’s prompt communication and coordination. The house is in close proximity to everything you’ll need to have an amazing trip full of adventure and/or relaxation.
The property and views are stunning and our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The kitchen and main living area are recently renovated and are beautiful and functional. We were hosted by David who acted almost as a personal concierge for us. He was fantastic. Having daily maid service included was a bonus for us and not something we typically get in a vacation rental.
This house met all expectations. The view was amazing. We had a small issue that was due to regular wear and tear and the property manager fixed it immediately. Ricky knows how to make a customer happy.
Went with friends for a reunion week. Everything in the villa was clean, beautiful, working, and comfortable. Decorated to the highest standards so we felt like we were in someone’s home, not an anonymous rental. We were a small group so only used 3 of the bedrooms. The management company made arrangements to pick us up at the airport, bring a rental car to the villa, hire a chef for the evenings we requested, book a private tour of the park. They checked in frequently to see if we needed anything, and were instantly available for our few requests. Our only suggestion would be that the villa have beach chairs and an umbrella for going to more remote beaches that don’t have rental equipment. Also, a larger sun umbrella near the pool. Our chef, maid and concierge were wonderful.
This is one of the few times when even gorgeous photos don't do a place justice. This home is stunning, with breathtaking views of the rain forest and sea, and every comfort offered. The kitchen is gorgeous and fully outfitted, the bedrooms are beautiful and offer views as well - of the sea, the garden and the jungle. We used the wonderful swimming pool every day. It even has a lap lane and a waterfall. Floating in the grotto area was sublime.
Wildlife was abundant. A toucan stopped by the open-air living room because it noticed its reflection in the window, scarlet macaws flew by overhead, and monkeys of every type came by to check in (and steal our bread - don't leave the door to the kitchen open).
Ricky and Carmen took great care of our every need. We also arranged a delicious meal at home, prepared by chef Esteban. Ricky arranged for a terrific guide (Gorge), who took us through Manuel Antonio Park, a highlight of the trip.
There was some construction going on nearby, as a few homes are being built or renovated along the same road as this house, but it was intermittent and not a big deal. We were here in the shoulder season, so there was rain, but it came and went, along with sunshine, which made for lovely sunsets.
We had a car, which came in handy, but you could get by without one, as there are buses that regularly pass on the main road above the house, and great restaurants and coffee shops a short walk away. Just keep in mind that heading up the hill to that road is a bit of a workout.
All in all, a wonderful trip and a beautiful place. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Cons.
It has such potential but the kitchen is
In desperate need of updating. It has no air conditioning in the kitchen which makes cooking in it near impossible. The fridge is rusting out and the ice machine no longer works. The oven no longer self ignites so you have to pull out the heavy bottom and manually light. The living room furniture is falling apart and in desperate need of replacement. The roof of the house is completely falling apart. The pool is freezing and the waterfall ino longer works. This pool
Needs to be gutted and redone. The elevator does not work as advertised making getting to the pool difficult. Whatever they use to clean is so incredibly strong that it can give you a headache. The toilet in the master bathroom screams every time you flush (this can be quite alarming when using in the middle of the night.)
Pros.
The view. This house must have been stunning in its day. Such great potential. Monkeys come everyday and were the highlight of our trip. Ricky was amazing to work with and responded quickly to all of our messages. Another pro is the house keepers they work hard making sure you have fresh towels and floors are swept The bedroom air conditioners were amazing.
In summary, staff does everything in their power to make sure you have a great stay but now it is time for the owners to do their part by giving that beautiful home the love and attention it needs and deserves. So much potential. This house could be the most desirable house on VRBO!!
This home is a place of beauty and peace. Gorgeous view! The pool is delicious. Gorgeous rooms with plenty of space for everyone. The only challenge is the ongoing yard work in yards around the area.
The house was amazing and in a fantastic location. Ricky was great to work with and provided us with all the information we needed to enjoy the home.
Location wise, the house is extremely close grocery stores, restaurants, bars and the park which makes it convienent to take care of anything you may need/want to do.
Monkeys are a daily occurrence with most days of our trip delivering at least 2 different kinds. Honestly we saw nearly as much wildlife sitting in the pool as we did walking around Manuel Antonio.
I would highly recommend this property and look forward to visiting again in the future.
When we pulled up, we were a little skeptical about the place. It is at the very end of a bumpy street. You can put the house name in Google Maps and see exactly where it is (I didn’t know this tip when I was searching for houses before choosing this one- may help you?). The roof is quite dilapidated looking and some of the furniture and appliances on the main level have seen better days. Landscaping overgrown. The elevator does not work, so be prepared for many stairs - the pool is two stories below the entry level. BUT... we ended up liking the place very well, especially for the value. Monkeys come through the trees every morning around 5 am and in the afternoon at 1 and 3. Both white faces and squirrel monkeys came through. They hung around for maybe 10 minutes, long enough for picture taking and making us smile! They did also get into the kitchen somehow one day and eat all of our bananas! Lol. Pool was a great temperature, cooler than we expected- in a good way.
Some of the bedrooms were musty smelling, fortunately we didn’t need all of them so chose the best smelling ones. Everything was cleaned well by the housekeeper and lots of towels provided. We only used one of the showers, some are hard to get in and out of so our kids just all used the master. Ac in the bedrooms but not in the kitchen. Each room has different keys/locks which is a little annoying. There is one master bedroom on the first floor down, two bedrooms two floors down, and one bedroom 3 floors down. The other bedroom (bunks) is even lower still, a floor below the pool level. I don’t think this would be a great setup for much younger kids (our youngest was 12).
Ricky was very nice and said he’s around every day, he handles all the rentals on the street apparently. He communicates with you through WhatsApp. There is a cellphone in the house you can borrow if you want/need to.
Other things to note, it is close to good restaurants (Agua Azul and Cafe Milagro were favorites) but not so close you’d want to walk vs drive. It has no access to a beach, that’s also a drive. Tour guides were happy to pick us up at the house for Manuel Antonio park and the catamaran.
Hope this review and tips help you make an informed choice about a house in M. A. We opted to do this vs stay at Tabacon due to the relative cost - we would probably do it again although unlikely to return to the area. People were nice and monkeys and sloths were amazing but the beaches were just “ok”.
We had a great time at the house. It was our extended family and another couple, 9 guests in all and there was plenty of room. The house has amazing views, great amenities, comfortable, private and amazing wildlife right there at the house. Ricky, who checked us in and out, was the best host ever. He helped us out in too many ways to list here. The in house chef was well worth it. Can’t wait to go back!
The house was amazing and had everything we could have asked for! You feel like you are located in the rainforest and will see wildlife in the area (Lizards, Monkeys, etc.). We loved the house and couldn't have asked for a better oasis to enjoy when we felt like relaxing at home. The check-in process was a breeze and Ricky was very hospitable!
The best home we've stayed in, and this was our fourth trip to Manuel Antonio.

A Comfortable, Warm and Beautiful Home with View
This is a beautiful home that someone lovingly created and decorated. It doesn't feel like a rental property, it feels like a tastefully decorated home designed with true creativity and an eye for elegance and artistic delight. The woodwork throughout, the architectural details, and the decorative fixtures surprise and delight you at every turn. It's large enough to give privacy, but not bloated and oversized like the newer party villas that hold large wedding parties.
It's not brand new, it feels loved and lived in. That means some things are a bit worn and needing attention, but it makes up for these with its charm and tasteful decor. The kitchen is well designed and plenty big, the bathrooms are whimsical and unique, with beautiful tile and color choices, and my bed was extremely comfortable. The artistically crafted wood frame windows of my room were an artisans gift and framed the beautiful jungle and ocean below. And the pool is large enough to actually swim, designed to fit into the landscape in a very special way.
The only caveat is the fairly steep winding stairs that connect all 4 floors. They require climbing and care. But there is an elevator for most floors.
The concierge Valerie is a joy to work with and gives first class service. She answered every question and was superbly helpful. And the housekeeper Carmen was friendly and wonderful. Our chef Esteban cooked delicious meals to our strict specifications and was very flexible with timing. Thank you all for your great hospitality.
The home is at the end of a private street, so there's no road noise. You do hear the occasional neighbor, but it's more private than most places and you feel alone with the jungle, monkey visitors, and singing birds.
If you want a beautiful, comfortable, creative home in the jungle, check out Vista Azul. I love this place, and I've been to many other places over the past almost 30 years of Manuel Antonio's growth.

Wow! Simply stunning!!!
We were a group of 7. All of us had great rooms with working air conditioners and comfortable beds. The view was stunning!!! We had the chef services and Esteban was the best cook ever! Loved the ribs and the ceviche! Well worth having the chef. Pool area is fantastic. Definitely one of the best places we have ever stayed.

Stunning view, great location, excellent service
We had a great time staying at Casa Vista Azul. It was a family vacation with four families total and we stayed total of 3 nights. The villa was beautiful with a stunning view at the top level right when you enter the front door. The 4 bedrooms in the villa were comfortable and clean with AC in every bedrooms. The additional bedrooms were down by the pool area and a little bit off down the stairs. We didn't see much wildlife except for one howler monkey, but the "jungle sounds" at night was amazing. The best part about the villa aside from the view is the Chef. We had Chef Esteban who prepared 2 of our meals each day. The kids loved his foods and fruit crepes and on our last night they made us a Japanese dinner with sushi rolls, tempura and papaya salad! It was delicious. Ricky, our concierge, was wonderful. We arrived late on our first night from La Fortuna due to last minutes excursion, but he stayed late to welcome us and made sure we were all comfortable for the night. He also booked surfing lesson for the kids at the last minutes.
I would definitely recommend Casa Vista Azul for your stay in Manuel Antonio and we would happily come back to stay again. Thank you and pura vida!

Trip of a lifetime!
I'm not sure there are enough words to describe our experience with Escape Villas! We rented two villas, Vista Azul and The Tree House, for our destination wedding. We had a large group of 27 total wedding guests and 23 of them were able to stay with us, spread between both houses, for a week! The two houses are right beside each other so it was easy for our group to come and go to either space. Vista Azul (where my fiance/wife and I stayed) had the added benefit of a private chef for two prepared meals per day. This service was unbelievably useful for our group and it became our custom to congregate together every morning over a delicious breakfast and make plans for the day. Likewise, we would all get together in the evenings and reflect on our adventures over seriously delicious meals. We didn't spend a single dime eating anywhere else on the trip and I can't imagine we would have found better food anywhere else! That was such a game changer for us traveling with a large group. I can't imagine how much time (and headaches) it saved us to not really have to think about what to do for breakfast or lunch or dinner for 2 dozen people every day! Esteban and Carlos were also super nice and even invited us to play a soccer game with them -- a truly special treat for all of us!
Additionally, Ricky, our host, was always available and helped us plan multiple excursions through his array of contacts. He also was very helpful with transportation to/from these excursions. And he greeted us after a long day of travel to walk us through both homes .
Of course, the villas, themselves, are absolutely stunning. Seriously. I've never stayed anywhere like this! The view is a jaw dropper, but it's almost secondary to the houses, bedrooms, bathrooms, everything -- They are exquisite! (I will note that The Tree House seems a bit newer and modern than Vista Azul.)
We ended up having our reception at The Tree House and it was spectacular. They were so accommodating when working with our vendors to transform the upstairs area into our own private wedding reception.
This is an absolute no brainer. Either house is a superb option for a medium to large group. Monkeys great you in the morning. The pools are both lush and tranquil. The communication is world class. 15/10 would recommend and hope to return!

Amazing!
The property was more than I expected. It was clean and very comfortable . We were there for a wedding, so our stay was short. We did manage to get to a beach and also deep sea fishing. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I can't say enough about our chef. He was incredible. Our housekeeper, Carmen was also excellent. Yes, I would recommend this property. Elizabeth Aubin

Once in a lifetime vacation
I can’t express enough how amazing Casa vista Azul was from meeting Ricky upon arrival to our personal chef Esteban to Carmen who did a wonderful job keeping our villa clean. The place was stunning, immaculate, spacious for all guests. The view of the Pacific will be forever imprinted in our minds. Not only was our villa amazing, but everyone was so helpful and quick to arrange taxis service and anything we needed. Ricky was just a phone call away 24/7. Esteban was beyond punctual and his food was to die for. I would definitely recommend vacationing with Escape Villas and Azul was a perfect choice for our family. I hope to one day go back.

Better than the photos!
Living in the US, I was a little more than worried about renting a property online in Costa Rica. Plus, I was planning a vacation for 12 of our friends, so the pressure was on to make sure I picked a legitimate rental. However, the property was more amazing than the photos and the service was top notch. First, Fernando with Escape Villas managed the booking (contract, deposits, final payments, etc). Then, their concierge Valerie, reached out to help us plan our vacation with things like activities, car rental services, shuttles, pre-stocking the kitchen with snacks, chef menu options, etc etc. All the little details we discussed with Valerie prior to our arrival (like having a rental car dropped off at our house) were already taken care of when we arrived at Casa Vista Azul. Once we got there, Ricky was there to meet us at check in and was available 24hrs/day to assist with anything during our stay. For example, our microwave quit working and he had a new one sent over in a few hours. He also booked a few last minute tours for us as well. The housekeepers were great and did a fantastic job of keeping the house spotless. They and even did our laundry one day! Probably the best part of our entire trip was having a personal chef. I live in Chicago and have been to some of the best restaurants in the city and Esteban's meals were better than almost any restaurant I have been to here. Having him cook for us every morning and night was worth the trip. If I could fly him here to cook for my next big special event, I would. Basically, if you are looking for a no worries vacation where all the little details can be booked and taken care of by a team of folks that are former ex-pats in a beautiful location and an amazing house, this is the place for you. And I mean, this house is BEAUTIFUL. It has a Bali-style feel to it with amazing common areas and bedrooms. My only knock on the house was that the kitchen counters, cabinets, and stove have seen better days, BUT I would rent this house in a heartbeat again. Location is superb as well. Right in the middle of Manuel Antonio's main road with bar, restaurants, and shops. Word of warning, you can definitely walk to the beach from here, but it is probably a 10-15 min walk down the main road and quite a hike back up. Might be easier to just take a cab, which are plentiful. Plus, when I was there in April/May of 2018, they had Uber :)

Gorgeous Villa in the heart of the Jungle
We arranged for a 9 people group to attend one of our good friend's wedding in Manuel Antonio. We were pleasantly surprised to see the attention to detail in every aspect of our stay. The large spaces, comfortable couches, chairs, beds, showers and bathrooms made our stay a relaxing one. We enjoyed the lovely pool and pool house, using its amenities most of the days. We were also surprised by the monkeys hanging around the house at times! I havent mentioned the view yet, but I believe it speaks for itself.
