The perfect northern getaway!!

Posted Nov. 6, 2023 on HomeAway
This home was even better than the pictures! The space is so cozy and decorated beautifully. The hosts left a huge bouquet of fresh flowers for us along with bread, chocolates, and jams. Checking in and out was super easy and the home had all the accommodations you could need. Definitely will be back!

Wonderful stay in an eclectic house with lovely views

Posted Aug. 14, 2023 on HomeAway
This is such a lovely property! The house is open plan, so there's not a lot of privacy, but we're a close family, so it didn't matter. The space is comfortable, the kitchen is extremely well-stocked, and the hosts were so kind to provide some staples like milk and creamer, as well as tea and cookies. And the flowers on the table were beautiful. The location was perfect for us - close to hiking trails and beaches, and not too far from Portland and Acadia National Park (1.5 to 2 hours each). The house is tucked away up in the mountain with lovely views, including of the stars on a clear night. You can sit out on the balcony enjoying the view and local birds visiting the feeder, or if it's chilly, the wood-burning stove warms the living room perfectly. It was such a treat to be able to stay there. Thank you, Melody and Michael!

Romantic Maine getaway

Posted Jun. 26, 2023 on HomeAway
Outstanding, responsive and communicative hosts, breathtaking unique home, great location. So much to do within minutes. Best welcome goodies ever: dozen farm fresh eggs, blackberries, blueberries, milk, almond milk, half and half, OJ, loaf of artisanal bread, jams, cookies (including gluten free!), honey, maple syrup…likely forgot something…it was all wonderful. Very high quality ‘usuals’ as well: soaps, shampoo and conditioner, paper towels, plentiful towels and linens. Excellent use of space in this open plan home with numerous cozy sitting areas. Wide variety of books and magazines, gorgeous flowers and plants, interesting antiques and trinkets from world travels. Plenty of empty drawers and closet space for unpacking. The views are spectacular even though ‘ocean view’ is a stretch. On a clear day you can see Penobscot Bay very much in the distance from certain vantage points. Heed the extremely accurate description: there is no auditory privacy: bathroom, snoring, cooking, etc. all very audible everywhere. The driveway and steps are steep. None of these facts bothered us (just two of us celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary with our 2 well-behaved CKCS). We highly recommend this gem in midcoast Maine and thank Melody and Michael for sharing their beautiful home with us.

Great Views

Posted Oct. 24, 2022 on HomeAway
Melody is very fast and responsive. The house has great views and is very clean. Little welcome goodies are left to enjoy. Traveling with 2 large dogs there was nowhere for a dog to be able to play or use the restroom. There are small patches of grass alongside the hillside driveway. If taking a large vehicle as in and SUV or truck there is no room to turn around the driveway at the top. Otherwise, it was a pleasant peaceful stay with a warm cozy fire on chilly evenings!

Thank you for your kind words I am sorry you had trouble with your dogs and cars though. We are on our seventh German Shepherd they average 90 pounds and our Honda Pilot SUV and Ford F-250 Superduty Diesel truck are able to park side by side and turn around up there. If we have a third vehicle it does have to back down. But there are several parking spaces in addition on the lower part of the drive if you have extra guests or a larger group. For dogs, there are endless acres to run right outside the door if they are under voice command…it’s the entire Camden Hills and we own the land above the house…and below it….there’s also an easement across the blueberry fields and a network of peaceful roads and mountain trails. I’m sorry you did not reach out to us….we allow dogs because we have big dogs and did not have the heart to turn them away as they travel with us often….we do advertise that it is a very steep drive….Fair Winds safe travels…

Relaxing!

Posted Sep. 20, 2022 on HomeAway
So glad we found this VRBO rental- we had a wonderful, relaxing visit staying in this cozy home. The close proximity to Rockland and Camden, while at the same time being away from it all is perfect. This is an ideal place to be able to relax and/or enjoy some excellent restaurants, shopping and hiking. The views are amazing and we had enjoyed several visits from a Pileated Woodpecker, while we relaxed on the deck. The house is very welcoming and we found wonderful gifts of cookies, eggs, juice, milk, creamers, coffee and stunning fresh cut flower bouquets waiting for us! This attention to detail made us feel like honored guest when we arrived.

Girls Weekend for the Win!

Posted Aug. 22, 2022 on HomeAway
We loved our stay here. The property is tucked away on a very quiet street. Every morning and evening, we sat on the deck and watched and listened to the birds. It was so relaxing! The house was spotless and there were plenty of soft towels, blankets and beach towels. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, pans, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, tea kettle, spices - not to mention the breakfast and snack items that were provided. The house is close to Camden and to the Samoset Resort where we walked the breakwater. The host was quick to respond and very accommodating. The description is dead-on about the "no auditory privacy", so although this was not an issue for us, it definitely should be considered when booking. There wasn't A/C (as is also mentioned in the description), but several fans were provided and kept the house comfortable. The entrance staircase to the house is steep and narrow so could be difficult for some people. Overall, I highly recommend this for a peaceful, away-from-the-crowds place to stay when in the area. We would definitely stay here again.

My apologies if the Airconditioners were not obvious or easy to find. One large mobile unit lives in the library/ convertible third bedroom. We have a second unit for the upstairs upon request but as this summer was relatively cool and it takes up window space, we offer it to each guest in case the need it but they declined my apologies Michelle if that was not made clear to you while I was traveling in Peru. But we do have AC as advertised thank you for the kind review

Nice getaway

Posted Aug. 8, 2022 on HomeAway
Make sure you read the host’s review about house. It was our fault that we didn’t realize that there was no air conditioning and the set up of the rooms was weird that when we got in the bedroom, had to walk through the bathroom and the other bedroom to get downstairs. Other than that it was a nice stay.

Thank you Donna for directing our potential guests back to the extensive descriptions on the platform that we provided to make sure that it is a good fit. My apologies that we did not direct you to that information. We normally remind guests that it is a very open floor plan when they book, with no auditory privacy except in the downstairs powder room. It is a ski lodge style post and beam log house with lifts open to the great room with a bathroom between the two lofts, which is ventilated through a cathedral ceiling that is open at the top to let in light and air. Once you are aware of that and only you know your party, if that works for you, the people who come here tend to have a blast…but one must consider all of that. My apologies for the air conditioning problems you may have had. There is an air conditioner in the door stairs area. It is located in the “library” off the living room which can be converted to a third bedroom. Our second unit was struck by lighting in a storm that our last guests endured. Unfortunately this time of year with supply chain issues it cannot be replaced right away. Also when the weather is cool it is better to be able to open the windows next to the bed and have room to move around it…but yes there is at least one working air conditioning unit in the house. It is a very large one on wheels that vents out the window. Sorry you were not able to find it or make it work. We were unaware that that was the case; we would have sent someone to help. You were wonderful guests and thank you for your understanding and the favorable rating despite these inconveniences. We appreciate your candor and your kindness. You left the place in meticulously beautiful shape; thanks for everything. We hope to see you again
